For International men's day, we wanted to shine a light on some of the amazing men that work for Aviation Job Search and find out a little more about them.
This year we would like to talk more about men’s mental health and all the things they do to keep on top of their mental, physical and emotional wellbeing.
Let’s hear from Sudipta Karmakar, one of our Marketing Executives here at Aviation Job Search.
Talk us through an average day in your life
I normally wake up at 7am, workout for an hour, make breakfast and leave for work. I spend 9 hours at work which I love, then come back home. I spend time with my girlfriend and spend some time studying about new trends or maybe reading a book and that’s it. On weekends, I prefer going out on dinner dates or family outings to spend time with the loved ones. Or sometimes, I spend quality time with myself.
What did you want to be when you were younger?
I always wanted to be an advertiser as I always loved the way ads speak to the mass.
What do you think are some of the biggest challenges facing young boys and men today?
The rise of social media and its negative impact is something that I think a lot of people are facing today. Social media is something that plays with our subconscious mind and that either gives us false hopes or maybe unrealistic expectations which in turn gives a negative impression when those hopes or goals are not met. This creates a negative loop and thus makes everyone go downwards. Breaking that cycle is big challenge in my opinion.
How do you look after your mental health
I prefer reading books, visit amazing places with my loved one, spend quality time with my family. Also, spend time doing what I love doing for myself, go to the gym and maintain a balance between my work life and my personal life. This helps me to keep my mental health good and proper. Oh, and not binge on my socials also.
What advice would you give your younger self?
I would tell my younger self that if you have a vision and you believe that you can achieve it, you will definitely get it. Be fearless and walk the path with faith, and you will definitely see the world bend in front of your own eyes.
What changes would you like to see in the future for men and their mental health?
Men are always prefered to be strong and masculine which according to some means that men doesnt feel pain or cannot express their feelings. But I would love to see that more men are expressive of what they feel and while taking care of their families, they should take care of themselves as well. Give the love to themselves as well. This will help them to keep a good mental health and lead a proper life.
Also, dont compare your stage with others. You are right where you should be and everything will unfold in the perfect time.
Who is your biggest male inspiration in life?
I would say my grandfather, but also Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs has taught me that you dont need to change your thinking if you have a vision, even when others doesnt believe in your idea. And my grandfather taught me that no matter how hard you fall, always pull yourself back up.
What is your proudest achievement?
Being a marketer is one of my proudest achievements. I always wanted to be, I am now and I will be better.
