EasyJet announces new UK routes for 2018

EasyJet has announced around 20 new routes from the UK due to start in the summer of 2018. The routes will fly from Belfast, Bristol, London Gatwick, Liverpool, London Luton, Manchester, and London Southend. The routes include four new destinations for easyJet: Reus, Genoa, Ancona, and Nea Anchialos. Many of these routes will operate 7 days a week, creating many new jobs, and will use easyJet’s A319 and A320 aircraft.

EasyJet’s UK country director, Sophie Dekkers, said: “We’re really pleased to be launching 20 new routes for the summer 2018 schedule.” She continued, “easyJet is excited to be continuing to expand, providing low cost fares and friendly customer service to our passengers.”

Belfast airport is to be home to three new routes to the Isle of Man, Naples, and Valencia. The managing director of the airport, Graham Keddie, said that “it means more jobs for this place and shows the commitment of easyJet to Northern Ireland.” An extra 300,000 passengers are estimated to use the airport in the next year and around 175 jobs could be created.

Paul Winford, director of aviation development for Liverpool John Lennon Airport also expressed enthusiasm for the plans: “We are delighted to see three exciting new destinations added to the Liverpool network with our largest airline partner.” He added that the new destinations “will prove popular with passengers from across the North West. With exclusive markets served only from Liverpool John Lennon Airport, we are delighted to offer a broad range of services to our immediate catchment of 7 million people.”

Liverpool will also be the base for another aircraft which means that 140,000 easyJet passengers will be able to fly from Liverpool per year. This could mean the creation of around 30 jobs including cabin crew and engineering roles.
