An Emirates flight declared a low-fuel emergency over the UK on Friday morning, as Storm Erik prevented it from landing at Gatwick International.
According to Logistics Middle East, EK15 from Dubai to Gatwick was due to land at 11.40am, but severe winds prompted the pilots to abandon the landing.
Further attempts were made by the aircraft to land, two to be exact, before a low-fuel emergency was declared.
EK15 was later diverted to Manchester, where it landed at 1pm without any issues.
The UK Met Office had issued a ‘danger to life’ weather warning that day, as Storm Erik continued to batter the country with 70mph winds.
Emirates said in a statement: “Flight EK015 from Dubai to London Gatwick on 8 February 2019 was diverted to Manchester due to high winds.”
“We have made alternative arrangements for affected passengers to get to their destination.”
“Affected passengers will be accommodated overnight in hotels and passengers traveling to Dubai have been offered rebooking on alternative flights where applicable,” the airline added. “Emirates apologises for any inconvenience. The safety of our passengers and crew is of paramount importance.”
