Salary Grade: S20 Pay Range: $64,166-$103,308 FLSA: Nonexempt
Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to serve as a sworn pilot in the air support unit of the police department and to perform a wide variety of police services and public assistance duties as assigned.
This classification is safety sensitive, subject to random drug testing in accordance with the County’s Drug & Alcohol Policy.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Briefs crew members and passengers on aircraft protocol.
Performs line pilot functions to include flying helicopters as pilot-in-command or as second-in-command in departmental aircraft for law enforcement related missions, searches, or disaster assessment; and transports authorized personnel.
Performs pre-flight and post-flight inspections in following with Airbus Flight Manual and FAA regulations and standards.
Performs maintenance functions to include cleaning aircraft interiors and exteriors; refuels and adds necessary fluids; and replaces light bulbs as necessary.
Performs routing maintenance of heliport and office facilities.
Completes required training courses and exercises in compliance with FAA regulations and maintains all required licenses and flight certifications.
Operates specialized flight-related equipment.
Makes go/no-go flight decisions concerning weather conditions, maintenance, and other flight safety considerations.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; completion of at least 1500 rotorcraft-helicopter flight hours, 1000 total helicopter PIC hours to include 500 hours rotorcraft turbine-engine and 250 hours rotorcraft-helicopter night flight and 50 hours rotorcraft-helicopter flight time in the 12 months prior to employment; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license. Must possess and maintain an FAA Commercial Helicopter Certificate, FAA 1st or 2nd class medical certificate; must possess and maintain Basic Law Enforcement certification.
