The Air Traffic Controller position is located in Southport, MB and reports to the ATS Supervisor. The primary focus is to plan, direct and coordinate the air traffic control system for the airport and surrounding airspace in accordance with Transport Canada regulations. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Answering radio calls from arriving and departing aircraft.
• Issuing landing/takeoff clearances.
• Issuing information such as runway to use, wind velocity and direction, visibility, taxiing instructions, and pertinent data on other aircraft operating in vicinity.
• Issuing air traffic clearances and instructions.
  
• Providing advice based on their own observations and information from the National Weather Service, IFR control facilities, flight service stations, pilots, and other sources.
• Transferring control of aircraft to receiving facilities when aircraft leave their airspace and receiving control of aircraft coming into their airspace.
• Operating various types of equipment such as: radios, telephones, interphones, computer systems, radar, recording systems, weather equipment, light guns, airport/runway lighting systems, and backup equipment.
• Alerting airport emergency crews and other designated personnel when aircraft are having flight difficulties.
• Coordinating with and issuing instructions to airport vehicles and personnel.
• Maintaining and disseminating records of daily operations.
• Other on-the-job training as required.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• Grade 12 Diploma
• Completion of NAV Canada training program or equivalent military training

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• 1-3 years of experience in the aviation industry.

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Basic office equipment (Computer, copier, etc.)
• Radar and radio equipment
• Restricted Radio Operator license is required.
• Must possess valid ATC license with a Tower endorsement or be willing to go on course to learn.
• Must possess a current Category 1 or 2 medical certification issued under Canadian Aviation Regulations.
• Successfully obtain and maintain an Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance
• Job requires climbing multiple flights of stairs to access the designated work location. No alternative access is available.
