Job Title:  Aircraft Maintenance Instructor and Subject Matter Expert

Position Type: Part-Time | 60 Hours over 12 Weeks 


Compensation: $41-$45/hr


Travel Required: This position requires travel to the campus location one night a week during the 12-week quarter and/or to the AJAC offices in Kent. Our classes are held at community in the greater Seattle area.


Required Experience: Minimum 5 years’ experience as an aircraft mechanic.

The organization annually serves 300+ manufacturing employers, 400 apprentices (including 100 high school juniors and seniors), and nearly 270 pre-apprentices. We have a small staff of entrepreneurial, smart, and motivated team members – this work is fast and dynamic but also rewarding and highly collaborative. 


About this Job: We are seeking an innovative and experienced aircraft mechanic to teach courses within our A&P Mechanic program, as well as serve as a subject matter expert for the continued curriculum development of the program. 


Some key duties of this position include:


Instruction:

  • Teach apprentices general airframe and powerplant concepts and skills commonly used for aircraft maintenance applications.
  • Use our online system to report apprentice attendance and progress on a weekly basis
  • Able to adapt to a variety of teaching situations, including working effectively in both the classroom and the lab environment
  • Establish guidelines and manage conduct of students as appropriate for the classroom and shop 
  • Participate in instructor training meetings 
  • Communicate effectively in oral and written English 

Curriculum Development:

  • Provide subject matter expertise to AJAC curriculum developers.
  • Review AJAC curriculum to ensure it meets FAA requirements.
  • Provide constructive feedback on curriculum after teaching a course.
Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Industry knowledge and 5 years of experience in aircraft maintenance
  • Ability to work with diverse populations in a team environment
  • Apply common sense understanding in carrying out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Excellent communication skills ­­

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Journey-level or licensed FAA A&P mechanic 
  • Prior experience teaching or mentoring in a college, technical, or vocational environment 
  • Current first aid and CPR certification
