Salary:

 $23.30 per hour 

Basic Function:

Under general supervision of the Director, Aircraft Maintenance provides aircraft maintenance to university based and transient aircraft. Reports to Director, Aircraft Maintenance.

Additional Basic Function – if applicable:

 Functions as an Assistant Airframe and Powerplant Maintenance Specialist under the direction of and with assistance from the Director, Aircraft Maintenance and assigned Aircraft Maintenance Specialist II employees.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

Function as an assistant airframe and powerplant maintenance specialist under the direction of and with assistance from the Director, Aircraft Maintenance and assigned Aircraft Maintenance Specialist II employees. 

Perform FAA required inspections and repairs on departmental and private aircraft as instructed by the Director, Aircraft Maintenance.

Instruct aviation maintenance students as assigned by the Director, Aircraft Maintenance.

Assist in the completion, recording and filing of aircraft maintenance records, under the direction of the Director, Aircraft Maintenance.

Assist in maintaining work related documents, FAA regulations, aircraft service bulletins, service letters, and aircraft manuals as assigned to the aircraft maintenance office.

Assist in maintaining orderly and clean maintenance facilities, in the best interest of safety.

Perform ancillary functions relative to the operation of the department's fleet, including, but not limited: towing aircraft, ground deicing, aircraft cleaning, fueling, hangaring and security as instructed by the Director, Aircraft Maintenance.

Per the Kent State University 14 CFR Part 145 Repair Station Manual, perform functions as Repair Station Technician.

Assist in the maintenance of ground support equipment and physical facilities, as assigned.

Assist in the performance of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance functions on flight simulators and flight training devices utilized in the Kent State flight training curriculum.

Assist with performing in-house pitot, static, and transponder testing and inspection of fleet aircraft.

May assist in the physical stocking of parts in inventory.

May assist with training and directing student or temporary employees; may participate in training new employees.

Operate ground support equipment as required.

Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School diploma/GED.

License/Certification:

Federal Aviation Administration Aircraft Mechanic Certificate with Airframe and Powerplant ratings. 

Valid Ohio driver's license.

Individuals will be subject to controlled substance/alcohol testing in positions where such is required by federal regulations.

Knowledge Of:

Safety practices, aircraft systems, aircraft airframe and powerplant troubleshooting techniques

Skill In:

Mechanics, use and calibration of tools, troubleshooting techniques
Operating ground equipment

Ability To:

Understand aircraft mechanical systems
Perform basic mathematics (e.g., add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, and to calculate percentages)
Read and comprehend a variety of written material
Maintain accurate records
Operate a computer for data entry/retrieval
Demonstrate physical dexterity and lift 100 pounds
Communicate effectively with others both verbally and in written format
Demonstrate effective decision making skills which agree with established aircraft airframe and engine maintenance procedures and practices
 

Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:

Previous experience maintaining single and multi-engine general aviation aircraft preferred, but not required. Applicants holding a minimum Federal Aviation Administration Private Pilot Certificate are preferred, but not required.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Maintenance environment; exposed to dirt, grease, chemicals, fumes, loud noise, slippery surfaces, variable temperatures and weather conditions, potentially dangerous equipment (e.g., rack lift); requires considerable physical exertion to include frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds, extended periods of standing, bending, or assuming awkward positions; may work varied hours and shifts to include evenings, weekends, and holidays; may be called in to work in emergency situations; requires on- and off-campus travel.
