AIRCRAFT MECHANIC I, (STRUCTURAL), ROTARY WING

Job Description: This position will support Aviation Field and Sustainment Level Maintenance on MH-47 and MH-60 rotary wing aircraft as part of our Contractor Field Team at Hunter Army Airfield. Aircraft Mechanics I must have a combination of experience to repair engines, sheet metal, structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train and general mechanical maintenance of moderate difficulty, required to meet the assigned missions.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Makes repairs to aircraft and follows the direction of higher graded workers.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti- icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems.
  • Repairs, replaces, and rebuilds aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface controls, and plumbing and hydraulic units, using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment such as shears, sheet metal brake, welding equipment, rivet gun, and drills.
  • Read and interpret manufacturers' and airline's maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
  • Replace or repair worn or damaged components, such as carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, and engine mounted gearboxes, and compressor bleed valves using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment; removing engine from aircraft, using hoist or forklift truck, disassembling and inspecting parts for wear, cracks, security, or other defects, and repairing or replacing defective engine parts and reassembles and installs engine in aircraft.
  • Adjust, repair, or replace electrical wiring system and aircraft accessories.
  • Performs preflight, thru-flight, and postflight maintenance inspections.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcase, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes.
  • Supervises the jacking and towing of aircraft, enters in the maintenance records description of the work performed and verifies the work was performed satisfactorily, service engines and airframe components at line station making repairs, short of overhaul, required to keep aircraft in safe operating condition, specialize in work, repair and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies, and specialize in engine repair.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Aircraft Mechanic I (Structural) must be qualified and experienced in aircraft Structural maintenance.

 

Additional Qualifications:

  • May be required to be licensed by Federal Aviation Administration.
  • May require specialization in sheet-metal, electric work, avionics or other aircraft systems related disciplines.
  • Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) licensing of contractor employee technical proficiency is not required.

Language Skills

Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex word and technical documents/diagrams. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret English language professional journals, technical procedures, government specifications or industry standards. Will be required to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries and complaints. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers. Must be able to generate effective oral and written presentations and proposals on complex subjects.

 

Mathematical Skills

Must be able to calculate figures and amounts, prices, commissions, and percentages, and to draw and interpret graphs.

 

Reasoning Ability

Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. An ability to interpret complex customer requirements and attitudes from verbal, non-verbal, and written communication is desirable. Must be able to read and understand electrical schematics and drawings.

  • Will work in a typical training device shop floor environment.
  • Will be working in areas with risk of electrical shock.
  • Will at times be exposed to the following conditions: extreme heat, airborne particles, and loud noises.
