The Aircraft Mechanic II (UH-60 Flight Mechanic Crew Chief) maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures and structural components of moderate difficulty.

  • Maintains and repairs aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components.
  • Remove and install aircraft subsystem assemblies and components such as engines, rotors, transmissions, mechanical flight controls and their components.
  • Applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions.
  • Applies required expertise in restoring equipment condition and or operation
  • Applies comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate to complex problems by interpreting technical documentation such as aircraft technical manuals, maintenance information, blueprints or manufactures’ manuals and action messages.
  • Service and lubricate aircraft and subsystems.
  • Safely prepares aircraft for inspections and maintenance checks and services.
  • Perform scheduled inspections and assist in performing special inspections.
  • Perform limited maintenance operational checks and diagnoses and troubleshoots aircraft systems using special tools and test equipment as required.
  • Use and perform operator maintenance on tools, special tools and aircraft ground support equipment.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have a thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures and replacement of parts, requires broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair, must have basic knowledge of electrical theory, must have thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers. 
  • The incumbent receives technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher-level technician, will occasionally be required to lead teams through more complex aircraft relevant tasks, and may be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records. 
  • Must be able to prioritize workload to maintain schedules on assigned projects.
  • Participate in maintenance test flights and operation checks as required.
  • Possess the level of experience to inspect all required aeronautical type maintenance to be performed by mechanic.
  • Required three years aviation maintenance experience, three years rotary wing aircraft experience, and two years on the assigned Mission Design Series (MDS).  All experience must be within the six most recent years.
  • Required level of experience necessary to inspect all required aeronautical type maintenance to be performed by skill class Mechanic I and must have a combination of experience to repair engines, sheet metal, structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train and general mechanical maintenance of moderate difficulty, required to meet the assigned missions.
  • Required thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, diagnosing problems, repair procedures and replacement of parts: requires broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair.
  • Required basic knowledge of electrical theory.
  • Required thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers
  • Required working knowledge of making entries in aircraft logbooks & records, military technical publications, and the Army's Unit Level Logistics Aviation Information System, ULLSAE. 
  • A valid up-to-date A&P license is preferred but not required.
  • All mechanics assigned to perform maintenance on FAA certified aircraft must meet FAA requirements.
  • Must possess a current, valid ARMY or FAA Third Class Medical Certificate
  • Must meet the qualifications in AR-95-20.
  • Contractor Crewmembers must have a minimum of 150 hours of experience as a flight mechanic/crew chief. Must have previously qualified and served in such capacity during military service, or have been trained using the applicable service training program modified to the contract requirements.
  • Non-Crewmembers are required to maintain an annual FAA Class III (or higher) flight physical. Amentum non-crewmembers who maintain an Army flight physical for USAR or ARNG duties may utilize the Army physical in place of the FAA flight physical.
  • Amentum contractor non-crewmembers serving at locations where an FAA flight surgeon is not available may utilize a military flight surgeon.
  • Non crewmembers involved in flight or ground mishaps will submit to medical testing and/or re-evaluation as required by the GFR.
  • Must provide own tools/toolbox. Tools must be shadowed and etched with PID.
  • Driver’s License.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.

Clearance Requirements:

Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI(T1) Public Trust Security Clearance. Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization to work at this facility.

Preferred/Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently lifts parts and equipment up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasionally lifts objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Most heavy lifting is accomplished through the use of mechanical devices.
  • Work is performed in Aircraft maintenance hangar that is moderately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Work could be performed outside as well.
  • May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.
  • The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance
  • May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft.
  • May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; may be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles, or aircraft. 
  • Knowledge of military and/or company forms required by work specifications is a plus.
  • Must be able to maintain an annual FAA class III (or higher) flight physical.
