Amentum is hiring a qualified Aircraft Mechanic II / Sheet Metal Specialist in support of Kadena Air Base, 18th EMSS.
Aircraft Mechanic II must have a combination of experience to repair engines, sheet metal, and structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train and general mechanical maintenance of moderate difficulty, required to meet the assigned missions. Additionally provides input to Maintenance Engineering Changes (MEC), Estimated Cost of Damage preparation (ECOD) and assist in the recommendation of changes to (MWO). Mechanic IIs can inspect Mechanic IIs and Is. This mechanic maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures and structural components of moderate difficulty, maintains and repairs aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components, applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions and applies required expertise in restoring equipment condition and or operation, and applies comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate to complex problems by interpreting technical documentation such as blueprints or manufactures’ manuals. The incumbent receives technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher-level technician, will occasionally be required to lead teams through more complex aircraft relevant tasks, and may be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records. May require specialization in sheet-metal, electric work, avionics or other aircraft systems related disciplines.
Additional Qualifications Sheet Metal Specialty: Designs, repairs, modifies and fabricates aircraft, metal, plastic, composite, advanced composite, low observables, and bonded structural parts and components. Applies preservative treatments to aircraft, missiles, and support equipment. Assembles structural parts and components to meet requirements for preserving structural integrity. Assesses damage to aircraft structural components. Advises on repairs, modification, and corrosion protection treatment with respect to original strength, weight, and contour to maintain structural integrity. Applies preservative treatments to aircraft, missiles, and support equipment. Inspects structures and components and determines operational status. Uses metalworking equipment and tools to form, cut, bend, and fasten replacement or repair parts to damaged structures and components. Fabricates, repairs, and assembles tubing and cable assemblies for aerospace weapon systems and support equipment. Maintains and inspects tools and equipment. Stores, handles, and dispose of hazardous waste and materials according to environmental standards. This mechanic can issue tools if needed in the absence of supply technician.
PHYSICAL/WORKING ENVIROMENT:
Requires shift work and a diversity of working conditions that may range from standard shop type environment where there may be no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject individual to severe changes in temperature, direct sunlight, wind, rain, etc. May be required to work where high noise hazards prevail. Will be required to wear protective clothing and other safety equipment during periods of extreme hot and cold temperatures. Exposure to high intensity noise levels, extreme changes in temperature, materials identified on the Material Safety Data Sheets, working on or around aircraft and machinery. Aircraft flight line, hangars, and maintenance shops. Able to physically operate aircraft ground servicing equipment including vehicles, tugs, tractors, and high-pressure soap and water systems.
Minimum Requirements:
* Sheet Metal Knowledge: Knowledge is mandatory of aircraft construction features; identification and characteristics of aerospace materials; repair of metal, tubing, cable, plastic, fiberglass, bonded honeycomb, and composite structural components; shop drawing and sheet metal layout techniques; shop mathematics; corrosion identification, removal, repair, and prevention; cleaning of metals; application of protective coatings, low observable materials, and markings; proper use, mixing, and storage of acids, solvents, alcohol, caustics, primers, and paints; and proper handling and disposal of hazardous waste and materials. Sheet metal mechanics shall have knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical principles of aircraft systems and knowledge of ground support equipment required to perform modification of the F-15 & KC-135 aircraft. Normal color vision as defined in AFI 48-123, Medical Examinations and Standards is mandatory for this specialty.
* Must have an Active Secret US Government Clearance. (Note: US Citizenship is required to maintain a Secret Clearance.)
* May be required to complete a SF-85/86 in EQIP as required to maintain possession of a CAC card. Unfavorable background check may result in termination if determination is made you are not eligible for a CAC card.
* Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
* Must be able to meet physical requirements associated with and/or pass any medical examination requirements related to performing daily assigned tasks.
* High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
* Five (5) years' Aviation maintenance experience.
* Must be able to prioritize workload to maintain schedules on assigned projects and are required to lead teams through more complex aircraft relevant tasks.
* Must have a thorough knowledge of mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures and replacement of parts. Requires broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair. Must have basic knowledge of electrical theory. Must have thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers. Must have working knowledge of technical publications.
* Minimum of six years total and two years recent (within 4 years of task order PoP start) in USAF aircraft maintenance support as a sheet metal mechanic. The Contractor shall have the skill to remove and replace F-15 & KC-135 aircraft parts and accessories/components and the skill to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Experience in performing or supervising functions such as fabricating, repairing, assembling, or installing aircraft metals, plastics, fiberglass, composites, or honeycomb parts; or corrosion identification, removal, and applying coatings and markings is highly desirable.
* Must be able to work all assigned shifts & schedules.
* Must have a US Passport.
* Must be able to speak, read and write English.
