Description

SUMMARY

The Aircraft Painter is responsible for performing all aspects of aircraft exterior painting, including surface preparation, stripping, priming, top-coating, and applying logos and markings. This role ensures that all work meets quality standards and regulatory requirements, contributing to the safe and aesthetic presentation of the aircraft.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Prepare aircraft surfaces by cleaning, masking, and applying/removing chemical strippers.
  • Apply aerodynamic filler and perform masking to protect sensitive aircraft areas.
  • Mix and apply primers, top coats, and specialty paints in accordance with technical specifications.
  • Read and interpret specifications, drawings, and work instructions to plan the painting sequence.
  • Lay out and apply stripes, logos, and other design elements per customer specifications.
  • Maintain painting equipment and inventory, including spray guns, hoses, and masking supplies.
  • Document work performed in compliance with company and FAA standards.
  • Follow all safety procedures and environmental guidelines during paint operations.
  • Assist in aircraft movement in/out of hangars when required.
  • Support additional departmental activities as assigned by management.

 

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE

  • Understanding of various paint types and proper mixing techniques (e.g., urethanes, enamels, epoxy primers).
  • Familiarity with aircraft surface preparation, masking techniques, and application equipment.
  • Knowledge of manufacturer specifications and safety protocols related to painting aircraft.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English effectively
  • Basic math skills required
  • Must demonstrate sound reasoning and the ability to follow technical instructions

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • A&P License is a plus
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Minimum of 3 years of aircraft painting experience preferred
  • Experience with Cessna and King Air aircraft a plus
  • Must meet airport badge eligibility requirements (no ramp restrictions)

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Frequent exposure to aircraft hangars and shop environments
  • Exposure to engine noise, solvents, lubricants, and mechanical equipment
  • Seasonal exposure to outdoor conditions when working near open hangar doors or moving aircraft
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required during certain tasks
  • Frequent standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs; frequent lifting of up to 10 lbs
  • Ability to perform manual tasks for extended periods
  • Use of ladders, platforms, and scaffolding for elevated work

 

WORK AUTHORIZATION/SECURITY CLEARANCE

  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • If a Security Clearance is required:
    • Candidates "must/may need" to be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance
    • Successful candidates must be able to secure Program Access approval
