Description

Position Overview 

The Aircraft Sheetmetal Mechanic reports to the Manager of Maintenance and is responsible for the safe, precise, and efficient performance of all assigned sheet metal repair and fabrication tasks. The primary focus of this position is to perform structural repairs and modifications on company aircraft while ensuring adherence to safety standards, regulatory compliance, and manufacturer specifications. Although not a supervisory role, the Sheetmetal Mechanic may be required to lead specific tasks or assist in inspections when needed. 

 

Responsibilities and Duties 

  • Perform structural repairs, modifications, and Sheetmetal fabrication in accordance with the company’s General Maintenance Manual (GMM). 

  • Inspect, repair, and replace sheet metal components, ensuring compliance with manufacturer specifications and Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs). 

  • Accurately complete all required forms and documentation related to assigned tasks. 

  • Operate and maintain sheet metal tools and equipment, ensuring proper usage and storage. 

  • Inspect aircraft structures for signs of wear, corrosion, or damage, and recommend corrective actions. 

  • Handle all parts, units, assemblies, and aircraft with care during repair and fabrication processes. 

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area, ensuring all tools are accounted for at task completion. 

  • Suggest manual revisions or updates by completing an MOC per AGM 8.12. 

  • Work closely with maintenance and engineering teams to ensure efficient and high-quality repair work. 

  • Coordinate with the MCC and SOC teams on the status of maintenance activities. 

  • Notify the Manager of Maintenance of any condition that may compromise the airworthiness of company aircraft. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager Maintenance or DOM

Qualifications

Qualifications 

  • Valid FAA Mechanics’ Certification with Airframe rating or equivalent training and experience in aircraft structural repairs. 

  • Demonstrated expertise in sheet metal repair, fabrication, and assembly techniques. 

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical manuals. 

  • Knowledge of rivet installation, sheet metal forming, and structural component repair. 

  • Compliance with recent experience requirements per FAA regulations: 

  • Served as a mechanic or sheet metal specialist for at least 6 months within the preceding 24 months. 

  • Supervised or participated in structural repair projects. 

  • Performed tasks in a combination of the above activities.
