What you can expect from this position:

The Airfield Maintenance Manager, Quality, Compliance and Groundside will lead, mentor and coach a team of Airfield Maintenance Specialists to ensure all surfaces at Toronto Pearson are continually maintained in a safe and efficient manner for our customers. Responsible for the Quality Assurance program, KPIs and metrics and for the Airfield Operations business unit. This is done through the delivery and review of strong work plans including planned and demand maintenance. To provide forward thinking and continual improvement related to apron maintenance techniques.

 As an Airfield Maintenance Manager, Quality, Compliance and Groundside, you will:

  • Lead the Airfield Operations Quality Assurance program supporting Apron, Airfield, and Paint programs with oversight of service delivery
  • Develop, implement, and monitor processes, standard operating procedures, and protocols for Groundside Maintenance Programs
  • Establish the metrics and KPI’s for the unit and lead the reporting of work order completion, vehicle usage
  • Create and lead an audit program to support efficiency and tracking of production across Airfield Operations
  • Lead the service delivery of the snow plan and tactics to support irregular operations
  • Identify requirements (staff, equipment, and material) to ensure Maintenance can deliver on the Strategic Plan and meet performance goals
  • Liaise with internal and external customers to identify any shortfalls in service provisions and identify potential areas for improvement
  • Identify and establish scopes of work, prepare tender packages, evaluate bid submissions, select proponents and day-to-day management of final contracts to meet the department needs
  • Lead people by providing coaching, guidance and development by providing relevant feedback for personal and career growth

The salary for this management non-unionized position is competitive based on the successful candidate’s qualifications

This is the role for you, if you have:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma or a combination of education and relevant experience
  • Minimum 3 years of people management or leadership experience; building impactful, highly skilled and motivated teams
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant administrative experience in airport operations, audit systems or management systems experience is preferred
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in an airport environment or similar with demonstrated unionized experience in serving a large and complex customer base
  • Demonstrated experience working in a customer centric environment
  • Valid Ontario G Driver’s License
  • Ability to obtain a D/A AVOP (Airside driver’s license)
  • Ability to obtain and retain Transportation Security Clearance

  • Strong understanding of airline, aircraft, and ground handling procedures as they relate to Airport Operations
  • Ability to anticipate and support the “day of” operational team as required, ensuring Toronto Pearson has a successful day
  • Strong relationship management skills with internal and external partners
  • Strong understanding of audit practices and Quality Management processes.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate cross functionally in a unionized environment, as well as with external partners to achieve results
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively reach a broad audience of internal and external customers, guests and other key partners
  • Strong decision-making skills and a sense of urgency to deliver operational excellence
  • Knowledge of all GTAA policies included but not limited to: Security, SeMS, SMS, Aviation Safety, IMS practices, environmental policies, Workplace Health & Safety, and all other governances through Nav Canada and Transport Canada
  • Familiarization with aviation documentation such as TP312, NOTAM Manual, Airport Operations Manual and Airside Activity Program
