Reporting to the Executive Manager - Airfield Services, the Airfield Services Supervisor will lead the airfield team, overseeing all functions to ensure safe, serviceable and efficient airfield operations. The role will ensure WSA operates in accordance with the Aerodrome Operating manual and Part 139 MoS.

This position fosters collaborative working relationships with on-airport stakeholders including government agencies, airlines and ground service providers.

The role will initially be performed within regular business hours to support the development of processes and procedures. It will then transition to a shift-based position that supports our operational trials and testing, prior to the commencement of live operations when the role will require permanent shift work.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and direct the day of operations, maintaining oversight of the airfield operations and works safety teams to maintaining airfield safety and efficiency, ensuring the safety of all stakeholders operating on airport.
  • Ensure the team is informed on updates to Standard Operating Procedures or policies to maintain compliance and operational efficiency.
  • Conduct, coordinate, and monitor the daily serviceability inspections including aprons, taxiways, runways and airfield lighting - monitoring for intrusions in the Obstacle Limitation Surfaces.
  • Oversee requests for aircraft engine runs and on bay engines starts, assigning airfield resources to support​.
  • Act as WSA’s assigned operations representative, submitting necessary requests to the NOTAM Office for NOTAMs to be raised​.
  • Coordinate WSA’s airfield operations response and allocate resources in the event of an airport emergency, maintaining communication with the Emergency Operations Centre and government agencies​.
  • Respond to safety incidents on the apron, coordinate with the Airport Operations Control Centre and Ramp & Baggage Supervisor to ensure resources are assigned and emergency services attend as required.
  • Gather relevant information for reporting and coordinate with WSA Safety/Airport Services Manager to report incidents to the relevant regulators.
  • Oversee the return of affected facilities to service​.
  • Coordinate and enact daily duties to support WSA’s FOD Management Plan and Airside Enforcement objectives​.
  • Serve as a designated DAMP Supervisor on duty for the Airfield team.​
  • Oversee and coordinate with the Wildlife Officer to manage hazards to aviation and personnel safety presented by wildlife​.
  • Review and monitor works in accordance with all AWP and MOWP’s and ensure all restrictions and required precautions are in place, including the issuance of any NOTAMs prior to works commencing​
  • Identify operational issues and develop proposed remedial actions to address in consultation with leadership ​
  • Support oversight of Ramp operations as requested.

About You

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience as an Aerodrome Reporting Officer, preferably in a supervisory or 2IC role​
  • Demonstrated experience in leading a small Airfield operations team, capable of motivating and effectively managing resources
  • Experience in the coordination and management of incident response and the management of wildlife hazards​
  • Familiarity with management systems and tools used in airfield operations
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to change, working on multiple issues at the same time.
  • Confident and self-motivated, being a genuine team player.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills​
  • NSW Firearms License​
  • Aeronautical Radio Operators Certificate​
  • Ability to obtain an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC)​
  • NSW Drivers License and ability to obtain an Airside Driving Authority​
  • Senior First Aid Certificate​
  • NSW General Construction Induction White Card
