**Exciting Career Opportunity: Airport Manager at Fairbanks International Airport**

**Lead the Way in Global Aviation - Join Our Team at Fairbanks International Airport (FAI)!**

Fairbanks International Airport (FAI) is a vital transportation hub serving residents, businesses, and visitors throughout Alaska’s Interior. FAI is one half of the Alaska International Airport System (AIAS) and is the second largest airport in the state. With its convenient access to regional, domestic and international travel options—and a unique setting near the Arctic Circle—FAI plays a critical role in supporting tourism, cargo operations both in Fairbanks and in support of Ted Stevens Anchorage International (ANC), and the broader economic development of the region.

What you will be doing:
We are seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking Airport Manager to lead FAI’s day-to-day operations and long-term strategic vision. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in airport management, regulatory compliance, team leadership, airport operations, and stakeholder collaboration. This role reports directly to the AIAS Director and requires close coordination with Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) to ensure cohesive statewide airport operations.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Operational Leadership: Oversee all airport functions, including airfield operations, facilities and field maintenance, tenant/stakeholder relations, public safety, and emergency response.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure FAI meets or exceeds all federal and state requirements related to operations, safety, security, and environmental standards.
  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with AIAS leadership to develop and implement airport initiatives aligned with the State of Alaska’s aviation goals. Drive growth in passenger, cargo, and general aviation operations.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Foster strong relationships with airlines, tenants, local businesses, government officials, and community partners to promote FAI’s mission and address emerging needs.
  • Staff Development: Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse and talented team, ensuring a positive culture of safety, innovation, resiliency, and customer service excellence.

Our organization, mission, and culture:
The State of Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities’ mission is to Keep Alaska Moving. We are working toward a modern, adaptable, flexible transportation system that will be resilient as we tackle our challenges. We believe collaboration, communication, and coordination increase our ability to succeed. Creating teams that are focused on results, working together, and leveraging resources across our department, with community and private sector partnerships, increases our ability to accomplish our mission and serve Alaskans.

The working environment you can expect:
At Fairbanks International Airport (FAI), you’ll work in a dynamic, fast-paced aviation hub that serves as a critical lifeline for Alaska’s Interior and beyond. Unlike airports in the Lower 48, FAI operates in one of the most extreme yet rewarding environments in the world, where aviation is not just a mode of travel but a necessity.

  • A Hub of Innovation in a Challenging Climate:
Operating in one of the world's most extreme winter environments, you'll master the art of managing cold-weather operations, ensuring safety and efficiency even in the harshest conditions. This role not only challenges your technical expertise but also allows you to develop innovative solutions that keep the airport running smoothly year-round.
  • Community-Driven and Collaborative:
Fairbanks is a tight-knit, resilient community known for its warmth and inclusiveness despite the remote setting. Working at FAI means collaborating closely with dedicated colleagues, local government agencies, and aviation partners—all united by a shared commitment to connect communities and support Alaska’s dynamic economy. The genuine camaraderie and spirit of adventure extend beyond the workplace, creating a unique blend of professional and personal fulfillment.
  • Cultural Richness and Natural Splendor:
Nestled in the heart of Alaska’s interior, Fairbanks offers a remarkable blend of cultural heritage and natural beauty. From the stunning aurora borealis lighting up winter skies to the vibrant cultural festivals and historical landmarks, you’ll experience a deep connection to both nature and the local community. This enriching backdrop not only enhances your daily work life but also offers countless opportunities for exploration and adventure outside of the office.
  • A Dynamic Environment with Impact:
At FAI, your work directly contributes to the economic growth and cultural vibrancy of Interior Alaska. Whether you're ensuring seamless air travel, supporting remote communities, or playing a key role in crisis management and operational continuity, every day brings a new opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the region.

Joining Fairbanks International Airport means stepping into a role where your professional skills are honed against a backdrop of unparalleled natural beauty and community spirit. If you’re ready to lead in a truly distinctive environment, FAI is the place to soar.
