The Dane County Regional Airport in Madison, WI has a vacancy for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Airport Operations Supervisor position.

Eligibility List created will be used to fill future vacancies over the next six (6) months.

DEFINITION

Under general direction on an assigned shift, monitors, supervises and coordinates operations and related support activities at the Dane County Regional Airport.  Performs related duties as required. 

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Represents County and Airport management in the absence of higher authority particularly in contacts with tenants, other agencies and the general public to ensure safe and efficient operation of the airport. Ensures compliance with Federal Aviation Administration and Transportation Security Administration regulations pertaining to airport operations. Periodically inspects airport facilities, including runways, taxiways, ramps, perimeter barriers and buildings, records discrepancies and arranges for corrective action. Issues appropriate notices to airmen (NOTAMs) when hazards exist and initiates closure of all or parts of the airport if necessary. Responds to aircraft accident/incident and other emergency situations that occur on airport property; coordinates related activities, implements emergency or security plan measures until relieved by proper authority.  Implements and coordinates snow removal activities in accordance with airport snow removal plan.  Observes airport tenants’ activities to ensure compliance with operational provisions of lease documents.  Enforces Dane County and other duly established rules and regulations pertaining to airport operation and use. Monitors and controls ground transportation and public parking activities. Monitors and operates computer security control and information systems. Coordinates and supervises special events and projects including airport tours and VIP arrivals. Records information regarding aircraft charter, air taxi and other commercial activities to facilitate collection of charges and fees. Maintains written log of significant events and actions during shift, conducts surveys, prepares reports, maintains records and performs such other duties as assigned. Coordinates aircraft parking and gate assignments for diversions, emergencies and normal operation among tenants and other airport users. Monitors and implements noise abatement program. 

 

Education, Experience and Special Requirements

Education, Training and Experience: 

Any combination of education, training and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Airport Management, Business Administration, Aeronautical Engineering or a related field; and a minimum of one (1) year airport management experience at a Part 139 Certificated Airport.


Special Requirements: 

Must have a valid driver’s license, or access to reliable personal transportation, or equivalent. Availability to work as required on any shift including nights, weekends, holidays and during emergencies and inclement weather (e.g., snow storms). Refer to “Physical and Environmental Work Requirements” section below.

Must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Threat Assessment and must pass an FBI Criminal History Records Check (CHRC).  

 

Background Check Statement: Some positions may require a criminal background check which can include fingerprinting due to the nature of the job's responsibilities. Wisconsin's Fair Employment Law, s. 111.31 – 111.395, Wis. Stats., prohibits discrimination because of an arrest or conviction record. However, Dane County may disqualify an applicant if the position's responsibilities are substantially related to the applicant's criminal history (e.g., the nature of the crime and its relationship to the position, whether hiring, transferring or promoting an applicant would pose an unreasonable risk to the business, its employees, customers and vendors, etc.) Management reserves the right to make employment contingent upon successful completion of the background check.


Physical and Environmental Work Requirements:

Ability to work outside in inclement weather. Work generally split equally between indoors and outdoors. Ability to operate within a vehicle for extended periods. Often work inside motorized equipment for extended periods. Work in environment with exposure to aircraft, automobile and construction noise, dust and exhaust fumes. Ability to lift twenty-five (25) pounds. Ability to stand, walk, sit and speak. Ability to see and hear within normal ranges. Ability to twist, turn, bend, and stoop within normal ranges. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of airport operations, practices and procedures, including applicable Federal Aviation Administration regulations. Knowledge of Transportation Security Administration rules, regulations and security directives affecting airport security. Knowledge of Homeland Security threat levels. Knowledge of airport facilities and equipment. Knowledge and ability to interpret meteorological charts and reports. Ability to exercise quick, sound judgment in stressful situations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to use a computer and common software applications.
