Position Summary


Green River College’s Aviation program welcomes applications from individuals who are committed to building, strengthening, and maintaining excellence of the Green River College Aviation Program. As our team grows, we will continue to recruit, retain, and support students toward excellence and success in the global aviation industry. Full-time faculty members in our program are committed to teaching a broad spectrum of Aviation topics using various methods and modes of instruction to ensure student engagement and student success. We seek an additional team member who can adapt instructional methods to meet the needs of our diverse students who come to GRC from a wide span of cultural and experiential backgrounds and have a variety of professional and personal interests.

ABOUT THE COLLEGE:

Green River College's student body is made up of approximately 41% Academic Transfer students, 34% Professional-Technical students, 15% Adult Basic Education student, and 3% Applied Bachelor degrees.  Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, Washington, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw.  Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English, and Continuing Education students. Green River's service areas are increasingly ethnically diverse, comprising African Americans, African immigrants, Asian Americans, Asians, Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, and Middle Eastern Americans, among other communities.

Position Responsibilities

  • A strong desire to teach and a great enjoyment of teaching.
  • Willingness to teach all courses listed in the catalog for the Air Traffic Control and other Aviation Programs.
  • Work experience in one or more of the following specific aviation industry areas: Air Traffic Controller, Pilot ground schools (fixed wing), aviation weather, aviation communications, and other similar topics related to aviation operations.
  • Demonstrated experience, expertise, cultural competencies, and commitment to equity in working with students, communities, and colleagues from diverse backgrounds and identities.
  • Ability to operate an Air Traffic Control lab, including programming of air traffic scenarios. 
  • Ability to represent the college with the Air Traffic Organization, including travel and program management.
  • Computer skills competent for an educational environment and ability to continue to learn new technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience with under-represented and under-served communities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ethics, integrity, and sound judgment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in the classroom and with other professionals.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate’s degree in aviation with air traffic specialization or other technical degree that has direct application to air traffic control.
  • ·Five years of professional (paid) experience in the industry as an air traffic controller radar facility with a minimum classification of level 8.
  • Applicant must have successfully completed the FAA academy air traffic control course.
  • Knowledgeable in enroute and terminal radar procedures.
  • Knowledgeable in enroute and non-radar procedures.
  • Knowledge of the air traffic control manual 7110.65.
  • Knowledge of Code of Federal Regulations: a. Part 61, 65, 91, and 121. 
  • Possession, or ability to obtain, an FAA dispatcher, ground school instructor certificate (if not a current flight instructor), and UAS Remote Pilot certificates within the first year of employment.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong and mutually beneficial relationships with aviation industry contacts in the interest of improving educational processes and to create employment opportunities for students.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver curriculum.
  • Demonstrate ability to work with international programs.
  • Minimum 2-years’ teaching experience as an instructor at either an ATC facility or in a formal college setting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in aviation air traffic specialization or other technical degree that has direct application to air traffic control.
  • Airline Dispatch experience.
  • Commercial pilot experience.
