Aviation Planner

 STV currently has opening for an Aviation Planner in the PM/CM group in Chicago, Il.

• Project Planning & Coordination:

  • Lead the planning phase of aviation infrastructure projects, coordinating with aviation specialists, architects, engineers, and contractors.
  • Prepare and manage project schedules, budgets, and timelines, ensuring that all aviation-specific needs (such as airside safety, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance) are met.
  • Develop and maintain a detailed project plan and timeline, ensuring proper allocation of resources and timely completion.

• Construction Oversight:

  • Manage the construction of airport infrastructure, including runways, taxiways, terminals, hangars, and other aviation facilities, ensuring alignment with the design specifications and aviation standards.
  • Ensure all construction activities comply with safety regulations, environmental standards, and federal/state/local aviation laws.
  • Supervise contractors and subcontractors, conducting regular site visits to monitor progress, quality, and adherence to safety protocols.

• Collaboration with Stakeholders:

  • Act as the main point of contact between airport authorities, construction teams, regulatory agencies, and aviation operations to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Work with aviation planners, air traffic controllers, and operational teams to integrate construction activities with ongoing airport operations, minimizing disruptions.
  • Coordinate with local, state, and federal aviation authorities (such as the FAA) to secure necessary permits and approvals for construction projects.

• Risk Management & Compliance:

  • Identify and mitigate potential risks to the construction project, including safety hazards, delays, and budget overruns.
  • Ensure that all projects meet the relevant aviation safety, environmental, and quality standards, and obtain the necessary inspections and certifications.

• Budget and Resource Management:

  • Develop detailed project budgets, monitoring costs throughout the construction process to ensure the project stays within financial constraints.
  • Allocate resources effectively and manage the procurement of materials, tools, and equipment for construction.

• Reporting & Documentation:

  • Provide regular updates to senior management on project progress, challenges, and achievements.
  • Maintain accurate records of all project documentation, including contracts, permits, and inspection reports.

• Post-Construction Evaluation:

  • Ensure that the constructed facilities are fully operational and meet the functional requirements of aviation operations.
  • Conduct post-construction assessments to evaluate the performance of the infrastructure and identify areas for improvement.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Aviation Management, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
• Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in construction management, specifically in aviation infrastructure or large-scale projects in the aviation sector.
• Certifications:
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) or equivalent certification preferred.
  • FAA certifications and safety training related to construction projects in aviation are a plus.
• Skills:
  • Strong understanding of aviation regulations (e.g., FAA, ICAO), airport operations, and infrastructure requirements.
  • Expertise in construction project management software (e.g., Procore, Buildertrend).
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams, including engineers, contractors, regulatory bodies, and airport operations teams.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple priorities and ensure timely project completion.
