Description

SUMMARY

The Aviation Safety Officer plans, implements and coordinates flight safety and environmental programs in accordance with state, federal and international aviation regulations, aviation industry compliance programs, contractual requirements and aviation safety best practices.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains crewmember and Non-crewmember training records
  • Maintains records for, aircrew members and non-aircrew members for, currency, annual training
  • Conducts semiannual/annual flight record closeouts
  • Submits flight DD Form 3062 flight request for GFRC approval
  • Responsible for submitting DD Form 2627 and 2628 request to the GFR for approval of qualification training
  • Tracks all GFRC flights to comply with flight following requirements, advises pilots of conditions changing activates emergency response if needed
  • Co-ordinates with other departments to ensure customer requirements are met I/A/W the contract
  • Reviews and monitors daily weather
  • Provide Safety/Environmental training to all pilots on a monthly/annual basis
  • Prepares daily, (including weather/hazards) weekly and monthly flight reports for the GFRC to ensure program compliance
  • Heads the Aviation Safety Council (ASC) to address mishaps, their prevention, and implement corrective actions of mishaps of flight, ground and industrial activities
  • Holds quarterly Aviation Safety Council meetings, records minutes of the meeting, and forwards a copy to the GFR; posts meeting minutes on the safety board
  • The ASO with the Chief Pilot will conduct monthly flight safety meetings that include all functional areas for all flight personnel
  • The ASO or designated representative will coordinate a semiannual safety audit encompassing all elements of flight, ground, and safety
  • Ensure the proper use of protective clothing and Aviation Life Support Equipment (ALSE)
  • Maintain a current file of regulations, procedures and technical manuals pertaining to inspection, maintenance and use of ALSE
  • Develop procedures and methods to issue, care, inspect, clean, and store equipment
  • Ensure that crewmembers are trained in the proper operation, use, and maintenance of survival equipment
  • Ensure that unit personnel have adequate information and training before using new equipment.
  • Maintain all ALSE in a high state of readiness through inspecting, cleaning, fitting, testing, adjusting and repairing.
  • Maintain files on inspection intervals, maintenance expiration dates, and supply status pertaining to ALSE
  • Operate radio, computer and telephone communication equipment
  • Communicate between aircraft and various ground support
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of FAR 21 Certification procedures
  • Knowledge of FAR 27 Airworthiness standards for rotorcraft
  • Knowledge of FAR part 61 Pilot certifications
  • Knowledge of FAR part 63 crewmember certifications
  • Knowledge of FAR part 91 General flight rules
  • Knowledge of FAR part 145 Repair station procedures
  • Ability to take and follow direction with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluent in the English language is required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Up to 25% travel required with significant customer interface.
  • Possess, or be eligible for, a U.S. passport.
  • Regular attendance is required.
  • Access to Export Control information is required.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 6 years work-related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • FAA pilot license
  • FAA Dispatchers license
  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant license with IA endorsement is preferred.
  • Military Aviation Safety school certificate is preferred.
  • Current FAA Class II Medical Certificate is preferred.
