Position Summary

The Aviation Manufacturing Technology Instructor shall perform the duties as specified in conformity with the policies established by the Alabama Community College System and the Bishop State Community College Faculty and Staff Handbook.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential job functions listed are not comprehensive and duties and responsibilities may change without notice.

•Teach 15-18 credit hours per semester and/or the equivalent in non-credit hours or a combination of the credit and non-credit course offerings.
•Regular and consistent attendance at work.
•Good knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment of instructional specialty with mastery knowledge in aviation manufacturing.
•Coordinate with other instructors in Adult Education and Workforce Development Divisions and College administrators in promoting and developing business and industry training programs.
•Communicate and coordinate with adjunct faculty about course content, teaching materials, instructional equipment and supplies, and laboratory maintenance and security.
•Develop and implement a program of instruction that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students and is consistent with industry standards, local and state plans of study, and curriculum guidelines.
•Coordinate work-based learning with Industry to include tracking and maintaining records on student progress.
•Collect, maintain, and submit accurate class records including grades, absences, withdrawals, and/or class drop information to appropriate offices.
•Maintain and conduct scheduled office hours for student conferences.
•Prepare to assist in the preparation of materials used in academic administration when requested, including course syllabi, program outlines, SACSCOC required student learning outcomes, and catalog material.
•Instructor must be available to teach in day, night, and weekend classes to include training, ground, online, virtual or hybrid.
•Use appropriate instructional methods, materials, and aids for enhancing the ability of students to learn and progress in a given occupation.
•Assume supervisory responsibility for students in the classroom, laboratory or clinical setting.
•Organize and manage the instructional (classroom/laboratory) environment to acceptable business/industry sanitary and safety standards including performing routine maintenance of equipment and machinery used in the program.
•Supervise students in performing routine cleaning and housekeeping duties.
•Practice reasonable precautions for the security of equipment, supplies and facilities.
•Maintain currency of professional knowledge and skills through professional development and continuing education.
•Acquire and maintain skills necessary for the proper and safe operation of instructional technologies adopted by the College.
•Select and recommend for purchase, appropriate equipment, tools, supplies/materials, textbooks, reference books, and audio- visual aids.
•Plan and implement lessons based on curriculum objectives and the needs and abilities of students.
•Develop, utilize, and update program course syllabi for each course in the program for each semester and term. Evaluate student performance in accordance with identified criteria.
•Prepare and maintain program budget.
•Maintain contact with business and industry and other potential employers.
•Establish and conduct Industry advisory committee meetings and maintain meeting records including assisting in evaluation of the program and make recommendations concerning course offerings, class schedules, and curriculum improvement.
•Recruit and advise students into the program from registration through completion.
•Assist in job placement of program completers.
•Work with college ADA coordinator to provide appropriate accommodation for identified students.
•Serves as a sponsor or advisor for student organizations.
•Update and revise courses in collaboration with faculty, department chair, and dean of applied and career technologies, and when appropriate, the advisory committee.
•Good knowledge of the institution's program of studies related to mission, goals, and organization.
•Serve on appropriate divisional, institution, and state-wide committees as assigned by the Division Chair, Dean of Applied and Career Technologies, Executive Vice President, and/or President.
•Participate in professional development activities in order to keep up-to-date in teaching and in occupational/technical skills.
•Other duties as assigned by the Division Chair, Dean of Career and Technical Education, Vice President of Instructional Services, and/or President.


Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
•Associate degree or valid FAA Airframe and Power Plant license (A&P) from an accredited institution with fifteen years (15) documented full-time experience in aviation manufacturing, aviation maintenance, or aviation related field. OR four-year (4) degree in aviation from an accredited institution or similar related studies with ten years (10) of documented experience in aviation manufacturing, aviation maintenance, or aviation related field.
•Documentation of an industry-recognized credential earned or in progress (proof must be included in application packet)
•Experience in Aviation Manufacturing or related industries having demonstrated knowledge of proper safety procedures, related hand and power tools, sheet metal assembly, applying layout techniques, and precision measurement of components, drilling and riveting techniques, and in electrical assembly/termination and use of electrical measurement tools.

Preferred Requirements:
•Aviation training experience or post-secondary teaching experience.
•NC3 (National Coalition of Certification Centers) Certified Instructor.

Other qualifications and job requirements:
•Good written and oral communication skills
•Computer skills (Microsoft Office, email, Canvas learning management system, and Banner).
•Ability to effectively respond to questions from supervisors, faculty, staff, students, and the general public
•Must pursue industry-recognized credentials as determined by the College (NC3 certified instructor (National Coalition of Certification Centers.)
•Ability to travel as required by the College

 Physical Demands & Work Environment:
•Work is mainly conducted in a shop setting, with occasional travel. The role involves exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke fumes, strong odors, and gases, as well as various weather conditions and temperatures. Tasks may require working or walking on different surfaces, including slippery, uneven, or rough terrain.
•Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability to work in a mechanic shop environment; walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time; frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, and twist; push, pull, lift, and/or carry moderate to heavy amounts of weight; operate assigned equipment and vehicles.
•Vision: See in normal visual range with or without correction.
•Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction
