Cimarron is seeking Avionics Technicians to support the Mobile Launcher 2 (ML2) program.  The ML2 will be used, like the first mobile launcher, as the platform for assembling and testing the Space Launch System (SLS) in the Vehicle Assembly Building at the Kennedy Space Center, transporting the rocket to Launch Complex 39B, and supporting the vehicle’s launch.  The platform includes various interfaces for fueling the rocket, providing power and data, and a crew access arm. 

Key Duties:

  • Install avionic components and systems, ensuring operational reliability and adherence to design specifications.
  • Read instructions, such as work orders, diagrams, and wire lists to determine the materials needed and the sequence of assembly.
  • Mount and install components, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), relays, contactors, switches, and terminal blocks in panel enclosures.
  • Assemble cables, buses, and electromechanical systems.
  • Measure, cut, solder, and/or crimp wire and contacts to fabricate wire harnesses.
  • Conduct detailed installations, including intricate cable harness configurations, ensuring all avionic installations meet safety and quality standards.
  • Inspect, test, and verify avionics assemblies against technical models, drawings, specification, and work instructions.
  • Troubleshoot avionic system issues, carrying out necessary modifications, rework, repairs, or maintenance to resolve malfunctions.
  • Ensure the optimal function of avionics systems by conducting thorough inspections, cleanings, measurements, and testing activities.
  • Understand and adhere to quality management systems standards, requirements, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with teams to perform in-field harness installations.
  • Spearhead continuous improvement efforts in avionic installation processes, prioritizing safety and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain a collaborative team environment, effectively balancing multiple priorities and adapting to rapidly evolving project needs.


Requirements

Required Skills, Experience, and Education:

  • Due to facility security requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for consideration at this time.
  • Ability to complete a pre-employment background check and drug screening, which will include but is not limited to testing for marijuana use.
  • 3 or more years of experience as an electrical/cable fabrication technician or other relevant industry experience.
  • Previous experience working with wire crimping and connector soldering.
  • Experience with engineering drawings, wire diagrams, and electrical schematics.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite/365 including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Experience with avionics manufacturing and operation of related test equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as IPC/ WHMA-A-620, MIL-DTL-22520, NASA-STD-8739, J-STD-001, and ANSI/ESD S20.20.
  • Proficient in using measurement tools and understanding basic math concepts.
  • High School diploma or equivalent. 

Desired Skills, Experience, and Education:

  • Technical training or industry certification. 
  • Experience in a manufacturing role in aerospace or similar industry, with a focus on avionics or harness fabrication.
  • Proven success as a "hands-on" technical leader.
  • Electromechanical systems and assembly background.
  • IPC J-STD-001 and/or IPC-620 certification, NASA space addendum 8739.4 certified.
