Position Summary

This Director of Safety is a key leader on the Flight Operations team who must be highly motivated, organized, and team-oriented. You will be an innovative and strategic leader focused on building an industry-leading culture of safety.  


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties as Director of Safety as required, necessary, or advisable set forth in the Safety Management System Manual (“SMS”).
  • Manage all third-party safety audits. 
  • Convene, the appointed Safety Advisory Committee to address any and all safety issues, hazards, and risks identified or reported (WBAT or otherwise) and required by the SMS and Emergency Response Plan (“ERP”)
  • Appoint, as necessary or advisable, Safety Officers to participate in programs set forth in the SMS, including, without limitation, Internal Evaluation Audits (IEPs) and hazardous/safety reports submitted to Company leadership and management including, the Director of Safety, Director of Operations, Chief Pilot, Director of Maintenance, and Vice-President of Logistics.
  • Manage the WBAT Safety and Reporting System and Programs.
  • Manage and administer filed or reported hazardous and safety reports from all Company Departments and employees, including, safety reports, reports of possible risks and hazards and delegate, as appropriate, the review, the investigation, root cause analysis, and documentation of all hazardous and safety reports, including hazardous report closeouts.
  • Develop, manage, and administer an Event Review Committee (“ERC”) addressing any and all Company-wide significant identified or reported safety and/or hazardous events, situations, incidents, or accidents.
  • Perform initial and annual recurrent SMS and ERP training.
  • Review annually any necessary changes to the SMS and SMS Manual and ERP Manual.
  • Administer the SMS management of change procedures and process for any necessary or advisable changes in programs, procedures, policies, or organizational changes or adjustments affecting the SMS Program.
  • Schedule and conduct annual ERP tabletop or simulated drills to maintain preparedness for any Company and/or operational related emergencies.
  • Manage a Company Fatigue Management System and Fatigue Risk Review Committee (“FRRC”).
  • Review and maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local safety rules, regulations, and laws.
  • Assist in development and management of any ASAP, FOQA, or other aviation safety reporting program.
  • Create and conduct an annual Companywide Safety Stand Down Program and presentation.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Company Accountable Executive.
  • Attend annual and periodic Safety Management professional development and training seminars/events.
  • Company Drug Program Manager
  • Create and maintain all employee training records, including electronic storage.
  • Some travel may be a requirement.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform required duties. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: 

  • Must be able to walk or stand on level and/or inclined surfaces up to three (3) hours per day and sit for up to five (5) hours per day.
  • May be required to lift up to 30 lbs. to the height of 4 feet and up to 20 lbs. to a height of 7 feet.
  • May be required to carry, push or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • On occasion, must be able to lift up to 80 pounds.
  • Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp, or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.
  • Must be able to routinely climb / descend stairs.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while in an office environment. The work is typically done while sitting at a desk or table.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

The employee may spend time at the company’s aircraft hangar, where he/she will be subject to and exposed to an environment that is not temperature controlled and can be extremely loud. 


Experience & Qualifications

The most successful candidate in the position will meet most, if not all, of the following criteria.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management or related field; OR
  • 5+ years of Aircraft Maintenance and Inspection experience with a Part 135 operator
  • Expert level knowledge of FAA regulations as it pertains to aircraft maintenance
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and company requirements.
  • Knowledge of safe working techniques and procedures.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective leadership and interpersonal skills with an ability to supervise a team.
  • In-depth knowledge of flight line operations, aircraft/vehicle movement, and safety/hazards.
  • Some travel may be required.
  • Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office and applicable suite of products
  • Fluency and knowledge of applicable industry specific-software tools, including FL3XX highly preferred
