Job Summary
Aerospace is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Staff III/ IV with the skill set to develop, manage, and implement the Enterprise Occupational and Laboratory Safety and Environmental programs. The selected candidate will anticipate, recognize, and evaluate environmental and occupational health hazards and risks. Protects employee health and corporate assets and promotes corporate environmental and occupational health and safety. Eliminates or controls workplace hazards and risks that produce adverse effects upon health and well-being of employees and mitigates damage. Provides environmental and occupational health assessment and training. This position will report to the Environmental Health & Safety Director.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead and continuously improve assigned safety programs based on knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory agency rules and regulations.
• Lead the Enterprise EHS Training Program to ensure compliance, improve efficiency and functionality of existing processes, and develop new processes for continuous improvement.
• Conduct instructor-led safety training sessions regarding laboratory safety and compliance, safety regulations, and other EHS awareness programs.
• Lead Compressed Gas and Cryogenic Safety Program to ensure compliance and provide guidance on handling, storage, and transport.
• Lead Emergency Eyewash and Shower Safety Program including inspections to ensure compliance.
• Understand and apply key components of database management, EHS management systems, auditing procedures and developing compliance protocols.​
• Assist with the management of the chemical inventory database, including the coordination of physical chemical inventory and employees’ access to Safety Data Sheets.
• Work with researchers and technicians to review and approve Standard Operating Procedures detailing all aspect of the proposed experiment involving hazards through the internal Project Safety Review process.
• Conduct hazard evaluation and approve hazardous material or chemical purchase in support for research and development function for Aerospace.
• Assist with the coordination of hazardous waste disposal and labeling to comply with all applicable regulations.
• Ensure all activities related to the use of hazardous materials or chemicals are conducted in a safe manner.
• Conduct scheduled and unannounced EHS inspection to identify hazards and track findings to closure.
• Respond and mitigate accidental chemical spill to minimize exposure or harm to personnel, the environment, and Aerospace property.
• Investigate injuries/incidents involving hazardous materials, chemicals, or conditions to determine root cause and develop corrective actions and track to completion.
• Investigate and resolve EHS issues, questions, or concerns received from within the company, among outside customers, regulatory agencies, etc.
• Conduct industrial hygiene assessment and indoor air quality investigation using direct-read instrumentation or sampling media and provide guidance and report based on the results.
• Assist with the Personal Protective Equipment program to ensure compliance and provide guidance to internal customers on selection and use.
• Assist with the Respiratory Protection program to ensure compliance and conduct quantitative fit test and maintaining relevant medical and fit test records.
• Assist with the management of the fume hood and snorkel inventory, conduct annual inspection, and maintain records per regulatory requirement.
• Interface with regulatory representatives and provide timely and accurate submission of necessary reports to the company and regulatory agencies.
• Develop and implement EHS practices and Aerospace Work Instructions.
• Respond to on-site emergencies, such as evacuation, shelter-in-building, and chemical releases.
• Conduct administrative functions such as data entry to comply with company recordkeeping requirements.
• Communicate effectively with senior management, peers, staff, and internal and external customers.
• Establish and maintain proactive and positive working relationships with internal stakeholders, functional partners, and appropriate regulatory agencies.

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements for Environmental Health & Safety Staff III:

• 4 years of relevant work experience with a bachelor’s degree or 2 years of relevant work experience with a master’s degree.
• Experience with OSHA and EPA standards.
• Experience with environmental, health, and/or safety best practices, standards and methodologies.
• Strong technical background with safety program management and compliance.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
• This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

In addition to the above, the minimum requirements for the Environmental Health & Safety Staff IV:

• 6 years of relevant work experience with a bachelor’s degree or 4 years of relevant work experience with a master’s degree.
