POSITION Fixed Wing Pilot-In-Command Job Description

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE

The fixed wing pilot-in-command (PIC) is responsible for the safe and efficient conduct of flight assignments based on weather conditions or other factors that may impact the safety of flight. He/she will work collaboratively with the assigned second-in-command and other members of the medical team.  
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Director of Aviation Operations and FW Assistant Chief Pilot, the PIC: 

  • Performs pilot-in-command (PIC) duties for Boston MedFlight and serves as the team leader for assigned flight operations. 
  • Complies with all FAA Regulations, the General Operations Manual (GOM), safety management system (SMS) manual, training manual and all other Boston MedFlight policies and procedures. 
  • Completes the load manifests, calculates weight and balances as well as relevant Performance figures.
  • Completes preflight and inflight calculations via EFB.
  • Conducts weather condition assessments and plans for contingency landings at alternate airports.
  • Assists in the loading and unloading of patients.


 
REQUIREMENTS

  • 2,000 hours total time in fixed-wing aircraft
  • 1,500 hours PIC
  • 1,500 hours turbine
  • 250 hours actual or simulated instrument time, including at least 50 hours in actual flight. 
  • Current unrestricted ATP license.
  • Current FAA First Class Medical Certificate
  • FCC Radio Telephone Operator Permit
  • Current passport with at least six (6) months of validity
  • Legal right to work in the United States
  • Ability to successfully pass a comprehensive BMF Class I, FAA, and DOT required pre-employment screening; TSA and criminal background checks; drug test; motor vehicle driving record (MVR); and PRIA records checks
  • Excellent interpersonal and cognitive skills
  • Ability to work any shift, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays


 
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • 3,000 hours total time in fixed-wing aircraft
  • CE-525 type rating with 25 hours in type
  • Prior experience in Part 121/135
  • Experience in aircraft equipped with EFIS and/or FMS
