In this role, you will help develop and refine high-fidelity flight dynamics models for the VTOL and transition phase, conduct flying qualities analyses, and support flight test campaigns. Your work will ensure optimal aircraft stability, control, and overall flight performance, integrating closely with cross-functional teams to bring our revolutionary aircraft design to life.  The job requires someone who is strongly self-motivated and able to work in a remote environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Modeling & Simulation:
  • Develop, validate, and maintain high-fidelity flight dynamics models (e.g., 6-DoF simulations) using tools such as MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Flying Qualities Analysis:
  • Conduct comprehensive analyses of aircraft static and dynamic stability to ensure safe and predictable flight behavior.
  • Perform trade studies and analyze flight performance data to optimize stability, control, and handling characteristics.

Integration & Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with the design, control systems, and flight science teams to integrate flight dynamics solutions into the overall aircraft design.
  • Support flight test campaigns by providing pre-flight predictions and post-flight data analysis.
  • Technical Development:
  • Refine flight control laws and optimize aircraft performance through simulation and model-based analysis.
  • Document technical findings, prepare comprehensive reports, and present results to internal teams and regulatory bodies.
  • Compliance & Innovation:
  • Ensure designs meet FAA, EASA, and other relevant certification standards.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and methodologies in flight dynamics and control to drive continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering,  or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5+years of experience in VTOL or rotary wing flight dynamics
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink and similar simulation tools.
  • Solid understanding of flight mechanics, stability, and control principles.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Flexibility to learn other Flight Science skills and a willingness to help in those areas if needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in Aerospace Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience with working on “clean sheet” airplane project
  • Fixed wing Flight Dynamics experience
  • Familiarity with additional simulation software (e.g., XFLR5, OpenVSP, VSPAero, FUN3D, or other CFD tools).
  • Proven experience supporting flight test programs and refining flight control laws.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements (14 CFR, Part 23/27) is a plus.
  • Private or Student Pilot experience desirable
