The Boeing CompanyBoeing Defense Space & Security (BDS) has an exciting opportunity for a Mass Properties Manager to join our Vertical Lift (VL) team located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
We participate in all phases of the design, test, and support of (but not limited to) CH-47 Chinook, V-22 Osprey, MH-139 Grey Wolf. Along with these programs the Ridley Park site supports a large portfolio of products including other Vertical Lift Programs, Commercial Aircraft, Fixed Wing Fighters, Satellites, Space Launch Systems, and many others.
In this position, you will have the opportunity to lead engineering and technical activities in Mass Properties as well other areas associated with Flight Engineering. In the role you will develop and execute your team’s project plans, shape departmental business and technical strategies, goals, objectives and implement key departmental policies and procedures.
You will have the opportunity cultivate and maintain a wide range of relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports. In addition to providing leadership for your assigned team members, you will have the chance to collaborate with fellow managers to develop and motivate your combined teams to achieve excellence on multiple exciting and challenging projects.
Position Responsibilities
Project leadership for your team's activities including task & resource planning, project execution, risk management, metrics and earned value reporting and process compliance for assigned tasks.
Reporting of cost, schedule, and technical performance to Program leadership.
Talent management including staffing, recruiting, promotions, retention, recognition, performance management and development of a world class team capable of executing some of the most exciting aerospace development programs.

Leads a team of Mass Properties engineers who are responsibility for:
Executing statement of work on Vertical Lift Division Programs; CH-47 Chinook, V-22 Osprey and MH-139 Greywolf programs and Attack Programs
Managing weight on Conceptual Designs of IRAD programs
Mass Properties Tool and Database development
Is the group senior technical lead for all things Mass Properties
Approves all CDRL deliverables
Contributes as necessary when critical issues arise.
Participates in the BDS Mass Properties Functional Skill Team to advise and assist the other BDS Mass Properties Managers by sharing skill team demographics in case critical skills are needed at other divisions.
Will be an active member of the Mass Properties Technical Council:
Design Practices
Support the Technical Fellowship
TDR planning.
This position is expected to be 100% onsite.
Travel may be required up to 5% of the time; Domestically and/or Internationally depending on business needs.
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor's Degree or higher in engineering, physics or mathematics.
10+ years' experience in mass properties, capable of estimating or calculating weight of various structures and systems.
5+ years’ in engineering leadership role (either as a lead or a manager)
Ability to effectively communicate at all levels of management, customer and partners.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Experience leading or managing mass properties teams on aerospace programs, vertical lift preferred.
Guides and Mentors mass properties engineers at all levels.
Must have experience developing and executing Mass Properties Control and Management processes on development and production programs, this includes:
Developing and nurturing customer and program management relationships
Managing the weight reporting process
Working with other Engineering disciplines to control weight. (Air Frame, Electrical, Mechanical, Propulsion, etc.)
Knowledgeable of the performance requirements of programs to assist aero-performance and the program understand critical weight thresholds as a fallout of those requirements.
Managing the Balance of aircraft by assisting with the development of the weight and balance CG envelope and/or managing the Basic Weight and Mission Gross Weight CG of aircraft.
Worked with Supply Chain and IPTs to ensure weight requirements and reporting requirements are flowed down to suppliers through supplier statements of work and specifications.
Experience in writing required reports such as Estimated, Calculate, and Actual Weight Reports, Sample Chart A, Chart E, and Inertia reports.
Has developed and presented internal Weight and Balance Forecasting reports to programs to the standards of the Weight and Visibility Forecasting Design Practice.
Must be thoroughly familiar with SAWE Recommended Practice A-7 as it pertains to the mass properties control and management processes required to manage both production and development programs.
Must be familiar with Joint Service Technical Manuals as it pertains to Loadability and aircraft weighing process requirements.
Must be thoroughly proficient in the development and tracking of weight in SAWE RP A-8 for both the Part I Group Report and Part II Detail Report. Part III Weight Status tracking familiarity is also desired.
Must have experience weighing production and development program aircraft.
Must have experience with weight and balance reporting formats required for Weight and Balance Handbooks as well as the Automated Weight and Balance System.
Experience using parametric tools to size aircraft or subcomponents during conceptual design is preferred.
Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) systems such as Team Center and Enovia.
Experience with CAD systems such as CATIA and Nx, etc.
Excellent skills with MS Office products such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are required.
Must have extensive experience using mass properties databases in order to track weight, and center of gravity information along with RP8 coding, effectivity and material tracking among other information, for all aircraft details is desired. Experience with CMPAT preferred.
Excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary to communicate with the design teams, other mass properties engineers, program management at all levels, and the customer.
