Gama Aviation is currently seeking skilled and quick-thinking HEMS Commanders to join our Special Mission Flight Crew for our prestigious charity partner, Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance (DSAA).  As HEMS Commander, you will lead the aviation component of life-saving missions as part of a multi-pilot operation flying AW169 helicopters across Dorset & Somerset and surrounding areas.

About the Charity:
Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance provides life-saving, pre-hospital critical care to those in urgent need across Dorset and Somerset. DSAA is a vital part of the community that relies on medical support for the critically ill and injured people when every second counts. Since March 2000, DSAA has responded to emergencies across the region, bringing advanced medical care to patients wherever they are. The DSAA team's specialist skills, advanced equipment and rapid response capabilities can make a life-saving difference. 

DSAA operate 19 hours per day (7am - 2am) and the critical care is delivered via a dedicated Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) desk to ensure seamless emergency response. The DSAA yellow AW169 helicopter was the first AW169 to enter air ambulance operational service in the UK and its outstanding characteristics, superior capabilities and safety standards ensure mission critical effectiveness and an enhanced life-saving service for the people of Dorset and Somerset. By joining Gama Aviation in support of DSAA, you'll become part of a dedicated team committed to providing exceptional care and making a tangible difference to the lives of those in need.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience required:

  • Provide safe, compliant and efficient flight operations in support of HEMS operations
  • Conduct Company duties with diligence and professionalism, and operate in accordance with the Company operations manual and other regulatory requirements
  • Be responsible for actively engaging with the Company safety reporting scheme, taking a pro-active stance on risk management, reporting all reportable occurrences, and reporting any other events which may contribute towards continual improvement in safety
  • Display kindness and professionalism whilst acting as a representative of the Company and actively engage with our charity partners and other industry stakeholders
  • All candidates will be required to hold a UK CAA CPL(H) with ATPL theory exams, or a UK CAA ATPL(H). An instrument rating revalidated within the previous 6 years is required for all roles

Essential

  • Current UK CAA Part-FCL ATPL (H) or CPL(H) with Class 1 Medical privileges and valid Instrument Rating
  • MP type rating or evidence of UK CAA Part-FCL ATPL theoretical credits
  • Minimum 1000 hours as pilot-in-command of aircraft, of which 500 hours is as PIC on helicopters
  • Minimum 500 hours operating experience in twin turbine helicopters, gained in an environment similar to the intended operation
  • Experience working on a rostered basis including working night shifts
  • Level 6 English Language Proficiency (as shown on your licence)
  • EU/UK Driving Licence
  • Right to live and work in the UK
