Location

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.   

The City and County of Denver utilizes a hybrid model workplace that balances the responsibilities of public service with the benefits of a flexible work environment. Employees work where needed, at a city site and/or in the field at least 3 days a week and telecommute remotely at a designated workplace within the State of Colorado the remaining days.

What You’ll Do 

Denver International Airport is seeking an energetic, strategically focused, highly motivated and detail-oriented Internal Audit Supervisor to join our Internal Audit team. This position requires a high level of analytical thinking, strong leadership skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across multiple functions and stakeholders. The Internal Audit Supervisor will oversee and manage audits providing independent and objective assessments of operations, risk management processes, internal controls, and compliance with relevant laws and regulations in accordance with the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Global Internal Audit Standards. The ideal candidate will have a background in auditing, a deep understanding of airport operations, and experience managing audit teams in complex environments.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Supervise and mentor a team of internal auditors in the execution of audits covering financial, operational, and compliance areas across the airport.
  • Plan, design, and conduct risk-based audits to assess the effectiveness of internal controls, compliance with policies, and the efficiency of airport operations.
  • Evaluate financial transactions, procurement processes, asset management, and revenue controls.
  • Assess operational processes to identify potential inefficiencies or areas for improvement.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to communicate audit findings and provide recommendations for improving internal controls and risk management strategies.
  • Coordinate with external auditors, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders to ensure audits meet all requirements and expectations as required.
  • Develop and present audit reports, ensuring that findings are clearly articulated and actionable.
  • Stay up to date on industry regulations, standards, and best practices relevant to airport operations and auditing.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

  • 5-7 years of experience in internal auditing, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Experience in managing audits in large, complex organizations, preferably in the transportation, aviation, or public sector.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified   Fraud Examiner (CFE), or Certified Construction Auditor (CCE).
  • Strong knowledge of risk management principles, audit methodologies, and internal controls.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
  • Lead and manage risk-based internal audits across various functional areas and monitor the implementation of audit recommendations and track progress to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Able to quickly grasp complex subject matter (both technical and business processes) and apply strong analytical skills and business orientation to assessing processes, risks and controls.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced and dynamic environment with strong inherent project management skills.
  • Proficient in audit software, data analysis tools, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong interpersonal skills required including written and verbal communications, ability to interact effectively with executive leadership, regulatory bodies, and operational teams,
  • Willingness to assist in areas outside of direct assignments when necessary, and commitment to self-improve and accomplishment of team objectives.

Required Minimum Qualifications 

  • Education:  Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, Public Policy, Government Analytics, Business Administration, or related field. Some positions may require successful completion of a college-level course in auditing principles.
  • Experience:  Five (5) total years of professional level experience, to include at least three years as a Senior Internal Auditor, auditing and evaluating business practices and processes to ensure compliance and efficiency.
  • Experience Equivalency:  No substitution of experience for education is permitted. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for experience requirements.

Snow / Emergency Duties: Denver International Airport is a 24/7/365 team operation. If weather conditions warrant or an emergency crisis occurs, all DEN employees may be required to work extended hours and/or shifts.
