Duties and responsibilities are, but not limited to the following:

General Responsibility

The Machinist/Shop Operator is responsible to set up and operate a variety of manual and CNC machines to produce precision aircraft parts and tooling. May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines. The Machinist Operator has responsibilities which include but are not limited to;

  • Set up, adjust, or operate machine tools used to perform precision machining operations.
  • Machine/Fabricate parts to specifications, using machine tools, such as lathes and milling machines, CNC milling machines, CNC Brakepress etc. 
  • Measure, examine, or test completed units to check for defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, such as micrometres.
  • Compliance with the organisational policies and procedures detailed in the Atlantic Aviation Group procedure manuals.
  • Identifying and rectifying existing and potential unsafe conditions.
  • Adhere to safety and deactivation/reactivation requirements.
  • Maintaining the work environment in a clean and safe manner. Develop and improve shop layout using Lean and 5s principles.
  • Complying with the Atlantic Aviation Group internal and mandatory reporting requirements.
  • Complying with the Atlantic Aviation Group safety policy.
  • Sign off maintenance tasks performed.

 Essential Job Function

  • Responsible to produce precision aircraft parts and tooling in support of maintenance and preventive maintenance of aircraft, components and equipment.
  • Operates powered machinery in a machine/SMW shop environment.
  • Completes aircraft maintenance forms entries and enters data into the Maintenance Data System, ensures entries are accurate and complete.
  • Complete all required mandatory training to allow the individual to perform modification/repair/fabrication of parts for Aircraft or Aircraft components.

Candidate Requirements

  • Must hold a valid qualification from a recognised training body in the operation of manual lathes and vertical 3 axis manual and CNC milling machines
  • Qualification must relate to the production of precision parts and components with a minimum of 4 years post qualification experience
  • Have the ability to understand and interpret technical drawings.
  • Must have full rights to work and live in Ireland unrestricted
  • Must have strong abilities to work unsupervised, be highly self-motivated and a champion of continuous improvement.  
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal

Desirable Criteria 

  • Knowledge of aeronautical regulations (PART-145)
  • Experience in production of aircraft parts and components in a maintenance environment 
  • Have good communication skills, both verbally and written, and interpersonal skills
  • A proven ability to work as part of a team
  • Be able to work on their own initiative and demonstrate leadership skills
  • Possess proficient organisational skills and an ability to work in an efficient manner

It is an advantage to have experience of the aviation industry and knowledge of some or all of the following disciplines –

  • Heat treatment process
  • Bearing Swaging
  • Pipe Manufacture
  • Aluminium and stainless welding. 

Typical Working Conditions & Physical Demands (for direct job roles only)

  • Must be able to operate powered machinery.
  • Must be able to use ladders, work stands, lifts, MEWP etc. and be able to work on all areas of the aircraft that may require access during performance of duties.
  • Must be comfortable working at heights and confined spaces.
  • Physical exertion such as: pulling, pushing, reaching, bending, standing, walking and light lifting of boxes, bags, files and electronic equipment.
  • Must satisfy and maintain the required medical standard.
  • Work is performed at the AAG Hangars in Shannon and possibly offsite providing AOG support.
  • PPE is provided by AAG and its use is mandatory in the performance of your work.
  • May be requested to work nights, weekends, holidays and overtime, as necessary to support production demands.
  • Must satisfy and maintain airport security requirements.
