POSITION SUMMARY:

The Safety Management Systems Manager (SMS Manager) develops, implements and administers the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority’s (Aviation Authority) Safety Management System (SMS) Program in compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and guidance. The SMS Manager is responsible for setting the strategic direction and championing the SMS Program, working to guarantee effective goal-setting, planning, and performance management methods are in place to facilitate proactive, systematic, and comprehensive processes for managing and tracking safety. The SMS Manager works collaboratively across the Aviation Authority departments, with tenants, and community partners to ensure safety management, preparedness, and continuity of operations principles are instilled into the culture of the organization.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, aviation science, safety management, aviation safety, or related a closely related field and three (3) years’ experience in airport management, preferably with airport operations experience at a CFR Part 139 airport, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Two (2) years of SMS experience in the aviation industry. SMS Certification or professional designation as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of day-to-day airport operations with a thorough understanding of airport standards and regulatory authorities/governing bodies.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, schedule, organize, prioritize and manage multiple projects
  • Knowledge working with the Federal Aviation Administration, CFR Part 139, federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations related to aviation safety
  • Knowledge of SMS principles and practices
  • Must be able and willing to work both standard and non-standard work schedules, including weekends to accommodate airport operations
  • Ability to conduct research, organize, analyze data, formulate recommendations, and create and promote programs
  • Ability to maintain professionalism at all times while interacting with the public and Aviation Authority management and employees
  • Valid Florida driver’s license

This position requires permanent residency in the United States. Only candidates who are permanently legally authorized to work in the US without sponsorship or Temporary Protected Status (TPS)will be considered.
