Our Shift Supervisors are responsible to the HIAA Station Manager, and play a key role in the operational success of our contract; responsible for leading our people, delivering high level customer experience and managing all aspects of our commitment to our client. This includes the overall supervision of personnel, the administrative management of the site, discipline, dress and deportment, monitoring morale, client communications and contract delivery. The successful candidate will be part of a supervisory team that will deliver operational support to our client 24/7 and will be key to the success of this longstanding and valued contract.

THE ROLE
Position: Night Shift Supervisor
Competition Number: CNS 2024-10-09
Reports to: HIAA Station Manager
Responsible For: Supervision, coaching, and administration of shift personnel
Working Hours: 12-hour night shifts, rotating 18:00 to 06:00 /7 days a week, which will include weekends and holidays.
Wage: $25.00 per hour
Closing Date: 11th February 2025
Duties and Responsibilities:
While duties vary by assignment, the responsibilities of this role may include, but are not limited to:
- Monitoring satisfaction of services through regular visits to all posts throughout the shift,
- Auditing on-the-job training at work to determine the amount of required training time and make recommendations to the Station Manager,
- Ensuring the appropriate level of staffing so that CNS can meet the service level targets of the client and keeping the Station Manager appraised of all events concerns or that could affect staffing levels,
- Monitoring training, overtime and equipment costs to avoid cost overruns,
- Effectively coach, motivate, discipline and provide feedback when necessary,
- Conduct investigations and complete detailed accident and incident reports in a timely matter, inform the District Manager / Station Manager of all incidents requiring their authority,
- Backfill for the Station Manager when required,
- Complete a detailed shift report and conduct a detailed shift turnover with the oncoming supervisor, ensuring all unresolved items handed over,
- Manage all pre-shift and in-shift inspections are completed,
- Respond to all CNS staff requests for help to assist in solving conflicts with customers,
- Ensure all relevant alarms are functioning,
- Pay stations and ticket dispensers are to be maintained and deficiencies logged and reported,
- Participate in the Health and Safety committee.
INSPECTIONS
- Ensuring employee access to Site Work Instructions (SWIs), access to the Employee Manual Policies & Procedures Manual (PPM), Safety Manual and Supervisors' Handbook,
- Ensuring occupational health and safety practices are being adhered to,
- Conducting assessments and investigations and preparing the summary reports with recommendations for consideration,
- Inspecting and monitoring all safety procedures, including PPE and boots,
- Ensuring all HIAA Directives and policies pertaining to the Parking and Curbside Services are easily accessed by staff,
- Investigating and resolving complaints, where required, from employees, clients and the public; submitting reports to the Station Manager.
RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
- Ensuring compliance with personnel policy in accordance with CNS’ PPM, Canada Labour Code, Occupational Health & Safety Act and Human Rights Act at applicable sites,
- Counselling and administering discipline to personnel and reporting outcomes to the Station Manager,
- Collaborating with the Station Manager addressing performance and disciplinary issues,
- Ensuring effective communication so that the CNS Station Manager and the Parking and Curbside Manager are aware of operational matters.
DOCUMENTATION
- Preparing reports relating to personnel issues including performance issues and discipline,
- Drafting disciplinary letters in collaboration with the Station Manager and CNS HR,
- Responding to CNS internal inquiries,
- Delivering respectful workplace documentation yearly,
- Completing HIAA JOSH committee reports when appropriate,
- Completing detailed shift reports for the Station Manager.
Candidates must be:
- Aged 19 or older,
- Not have a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted,
- Eligible to apply for, and obtain, a Government of Canada Personnel Security Clearance,
- Eligible to apply for, and pass, Government of Canada Transportation Security Clearance,
- Eligible to apply for, and obtain, Restricted area identity card (RAIC),
- Be able to communicate effectively in English,
- Hold a valid, unrestricted Nova Scotia driver's license.
Qualifications and Skills
The incumbent must demonstrate experience with the following key qualifications, skills, and attributes:
- Have advanced leadership/management training courses or possess the equivalent experience,
- Comfortable in use of computers and computer-based applications,
- Possess excellent customer service skills,
- Possess excellent communication skills (verbal and written),
- Be qualified in, or able to achieve, Emergency First Aid,
- Be enrolled on, and pass, the On-Site Security Training Program,
- Attend, and pass, the most up-to-date HIAA Standard Operating Procedures Curbside Assistance Program,
- Complete a personnel training program on assisting persons with disabilities as required by the Accessible Transportation for Persons with Disabilities Regulations,
- Be certified in, and be able to train, HIAA Curbside wheelchair accessibility,
- Demonstrated ability to maintain composure and exercise sound judgement and decision making during emergency or high-stress situations,
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize and adapt to changing situations,
- Highly professional and discreet,
- Excellent coaching, negotiating, and mentoring abilities,
- Experience in On-Watch application considered an asset.
