Pilot – 1.0 FTE – Permanent – Saskatoon Base

Is this challenge for you?

Reporting to the Aviation Base Manager, the STARS pilot is an integral member of the Aviation team.  The STARS pilot safely and effectively pilots STARS aircraft and is an active member of the STARS operational team. The STARS pilot will work a schedule of day and night shifts to make our 24/7/365 patient care mission possible.

Do you have what it takes?           

You are a professional helicopter pilot who thrives in a highly engaging team-based environment with excellent communications and organizational skills. 

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Safely and effectively pilot STARS aircraft;
  • Maintain a category 1 aviation medical;
  • Maintain currency and proficiency with respect to:
      • Aircraft flown
      • Regulations
      • Publications
      • Training standards
      • Licensing requirements
  • Function as an active member of the STARS operational team;
  • Participate in fundraising and public relations activities as required.

 

Qualified applicants for this role will have

  • A valid Commercial Rotary Wing Licence
  • A minimum of 500 hours of helicopter experience
  • 300 hours PIC
  • Multi-Engine and Night/IFR experience desirable
  • Helicopter Airline Transport Licence or HATRA exams completed
  • Group 4 Instrument rating
  • Valid Class 1 medical
  • Crew experience an asset
  • Airbus H145 type rating will be considered an asset.  
  • Ability to successfully complete the Controlled Goods Security Assessment Application for Night Vision Goggle purposes
  • Valid Canadian Passport or ability to work in Canada and the ability to travel to the USA
  • Immunization records with required vaccinations
  • The position requires the applicant to work a schedule of day and night shifts to make our 24/7/365 patient care mission possible.

 

Health & Safety Requirements

This position is classified as safety sensitive. Incumbents are responsible to be Fit to Work.  This is necessary for workplace safety and to ensure both team members and STARS meet their obligations as outlined in Occupational Health and Safety Act(s). 

Bona Fide Occupational Requirement

  • All STARS pilot roles are physically demanding and require overall strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular capabilities.
  • All pilot roles have bona fide occupational requirements, e.g., physical standards, that are integral to fulfilling the role. These are detailed in the Pilot Physical Demands Analysis that is shared during the recruitment selection process.  
  • All pilot roles are required to wear personal protective equipment. 

 

Because this position is classified as safety sensitive, throughout employment workers are responsible to remain free from alcohol and drugs when coming to work, performing work, or when scheduled on-call, and workers are to maintain physical fitness levels required of the role, throughout their career at STARS. STARS strongly encourages team members to receive immunization booster shots when available to them. Team members will be informed by STARS’ Chief Medical Officer if booster shots, or other vaccinations, become mandatory conditions of employment in the future.
