The Amazon Aviation Security (AvSec) team is looking for an enthusiastic Aviation Security leader to join the team as the Principal AvSec Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the newly formed Amazon Air Cargo (ACAR) Division within Amazon Air. This Division is responsible for the growth of non-Amazon packages carried on Amazon flights. In the U.S. this requires full compliance with all 49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), 1542 and 1544 requirements at regulated and unregulated airports. Outside the U.S. this requires evaluation of host government credentialing standards and developing Amazon policies and procedures to mitigate any gaps between those and U.S. standards.

The successful candidate will develop and provide all stakeholders and business partners with necessary tools, resources, and training to build and maintain compliance with the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations in the U.S., International Air Transportation Association (IATA) Aviation Security standards, and engage and support internal Amazon teams and customers. This position requires strong communication and partnership with leaders in both Amazon Air and Amazon Air’s contract airline and ground handling vendors, federal regulatory agencies, and airport security teams to drive effective solutions and mitigate risks to the operation.

As a senior leader on the AvSec team, responsibilities will include managing through ambiguity and determining the right stakeholders to develop and implement decisions. This position will hire and develop the right workforce strategy to meet long-term process targets, and will lead multiple layers of managers and specialists with limited guidance through performance management utilizing individual and team goals.




Key job responsibilities
As part of the AvSec team, the successful candidate will serve as a senior leader to create, establish, and verify compliance with security procedures, regulatory standards, physical security design standards and policies while utilizing Security Management Systems (SeMS) processes for risk mitigation. The successful candidate must have the ability to manage remotely and develop a high-performing team to support the Amazon Air teams.

Additional responsibilities include:
- Engage and influence carriers to recognize and accept Amazon’s security program goals.
- Develop policies, procedures, training and quality assurance to ensure that Amazon remains fully compliant with regulations at all times.
- Lead continuous improvement efforts to meet the needs of internal customers.
- Develop technology to support security, using best in class applications.
- Utilize the Security Management System (SeMS) principles to track all findings and corrective actions and build comprehensive security plans to mitigate risk and cultivate the security culture including leading and lagging indicators, goal setting and key performance indicators (KPI) for AvSec operational teams.
- Develop reporting standards and automatic mechanisms for reporting the health of the business to all stakeholders.
- Leverage best practices and experience to protect the Amazon brand.
- Educate internal and external stakeholders on industry standards and compliance practices in the acceptance, handling, and delivery of a world class cargo product.
- Ability to travel 20-30% of the time.


A day in the life
The Principal AvSec Manager will oversee and manage the aviation security program, associated functions, and administer mechanisms which promote safe, efficient, and secure operations at AIR sites. The Principal AvSec Manager is therefore integral in mitigating insider threat to Amazon Air. The successful candidate will be expected to create policies, processes and measures in accordance with governing rules, regulations and policies. This role provides, develops and implements strategic goals in alignment with the World-Wide Director of AvSec. A typical day may also require the candidate to develop and lead strategic plans for the entire AIR Network. The Principal AvSec Manager’s time will be divided between internal AvSec support and external ACAR support. It requires a candidate with the ability to switch between the different types of support required throughout the day.

About the team
AvSec’s cargo support team operates in a dynamic environment, where members are tasked with various responsibilities, and are driven by an overarching mission of security compliance, risk mitigation and quality control. The successful candidate will collaborate and engage with a wider and diverse set of teams such as, AIR site leaders, Human Resources (People, Experience, and Technology), Learning Department, and Workforce Staffing to execute and drive the mission of the Department. The interaction with support groups drives cohesiveness and creates an environment that fosters camaraderie and team work. At times, there may be the need to travel, in order to support the Credentialing team’s mission.

- Bachelor’s degree or 10+ years of increasing responsibilities in Aviation Security, specifically, International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), IATA, IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), U.S. and foreign regulatory programs
- 10+ years of Aviation Regulatory Security Compliance experience, specifically TSA, FAA, and U.S. CBP
- Experience in a customer service-driven environment.
- 10+ years conducting risk analysis
- Training and development experience
- Experience leading multiple direct reports.
- Practical knowledge of the Full All Cargo Aircraft Operator Standard Security Program (FACAOSSP)
- Experience with all Microsoft Office applications.

- Master’s degree
- Experience in working with Insider Threat Teams and Programs
- Lean Six Sigma or Project Management Professional certifications
- Demonstrated ability to adapt well to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, and strategy
- Excellent verbal communication skills, including presenting to executive-level leaders
- Strong writing skills including ability to write analytical reviews for critical business decisions.
- Strong background of working with local, federal regulators and influencing aviation security authorities and associations toward conclusions that benefit previous employers
- Demonstrated leadership of airline and airport operations, and security requirements
- Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem solving ability
- Practical knowledge of the Indirect Air Carrier Standard Security Program (IACSSP) and the Certified Cargo Screening Program (CCSP)

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,800/year in our lowest geographic market up to $214,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
