Job Description - QA Tester (Quality Analyst I)

About the Role:

Quality Analyst I assists in the design, development, and execution of software tests to verify that software meets business or product requirements. They work closely with senior QA team members to gain practical experience in software testing methodologies and contribute to the overall quality assurance process.

Responsibilities:

  • Test Planning and Execution:

    • Design, develop, and execute comprehensive test plans and test cases based on product requirements and specifications.

    • Estimate, prioritize, plan, and coordinate testing activities to align with project timelines and deliverables.

    • Perform various types of testing, including functional, regression, integration, system, and user acceptance testing (UAT).

    • Conduct API and Web services testing using tools like Postman.

    • Perform thorough mobile testing across different devices and operating systems.

  • Defect Management:

    • Identify, document, and track software defects and inconsistencies using bug tracking systems.

    • Analyze test results and provide detailed reports on software quality, performance, and areas for improvement.

    • Perform thorough regression testing to ensure that resolved bugs do not re-emerge.

  • Collaboration:

    • Collaborate effectively with developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to gain a deep understanding of product features and functionality.

    • Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.

    • Liaise with internal teams (e.g., developers and business analysts/product managers) to clarify system requirements and ensure testability.

  • Quality Improvement:

    • Continuously evaluate and improve testing processes and methodologies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

    • Track key quality assurance metrics, such as defect densities and open defect counts, to identify trends and areas for improvement.

    • Apply quality engineering principles throughout the software development lifecycle.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in software testing or QA roles.

  • Strong understanding of software testing principles, methodologies, and best practices.

  • Experience in API and Web services testing using tools like Postman.

  • Solid understanding of mobile testing principles and techniques.

  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., GitLab).

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication and collaboration skills.

  • Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with automated testing tools (e.g., Selenium, JUnit, TestNG).

  • Experience working in an Agile development environment.

  • Certifications in software testing (e.g., ISTQB).

  • Experience with specific tools/technologies relevant to our company's tech stack (list if applicable).

  • Familiarity with [specific domain or industry, if applicable].
