Purpose of the Job:

To improve operational processes and outputs by creating and implementing quality standards, testing systems and create and maintain quality and safety documentation to meet established quality standards. Monitor and report on the reliability and performance of the operational processes, products and equipment. Design process workflows, corrective and preventive action plans, and audit systems based on International Standardization Organisation International (ISO) 9001:2015 requirement.

Duties & Responsibilities

Strategic Management

  • Formulate a strategy to increase productivity in the business and facilitate continuous improvement projects to contribute to the Divisional strategic growth.

Operations Management

  • Audit systems based on ISO 9001/ AS9100 requirements and identify issues and recommend solutions.
  • Update the Quality Management System (QMS) with incidents, fixes and improvements.
  • Prepare report on malfunctions and take corrective actions.
  • Maintain a Safety Management System (SMS) in line with South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) requirements and ensure alignment to European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) requirements.
  • Design automated testing systems and quality control workflows to improve efficiency of the quality assurance process and to ensure conformity and accuracy.
  • Provide quality systems training.
  • Provide projects/programme quality support.
  • Develop and implement appropriate methods of supplier approvals.
  • Conduct supplier audits and trend analysis.
  • Support suppliers to close compliance gaps and ensure they meet original equipment manufacturers (OEM) requirements.
  • Implement improvement plans (e.g. Lean, Six Sigma) to eliminate waste from processes and to focus on activities that create value for the customer and minimise human and machine errors.
  • Analyse Divisional produced data for statistical and trend purposes and provide diagnoses to facilitate proactive solutions.
  • Collect data about instances of product errors and investigate by troubleshooting the manufacturing or design process.
  • Write detailed reports on defect and malfunctioning and corrective actions taken.
  • Collaborate with operational managers to develop and implement controls and improvements.
  • Review customer feedback and implement changes to improve and increase customer satisfaction
  • Drive best practice, continuous improvement and innovation at process and procedure level.
  • Develop effective quality control procedures and processes based on accreditation, certification, standards and customer requirements.
  • Determine quality metrices for all operational procedures.
  • Create and maintain quality documentation.
  • Determine quality standards and develop detailed guidelines and documentation for checking.
  • Meet with clients on new projects to discuss quality expectations and design documents that clearly outline theses specifications and communicate to relevant parties.
  • Prepare reports by collecting, analysing and summarising data.

Audit & Compliance

  • Review all processes regularly to ensure alignment with Denel policies, OEM and regulatory requirements and standards.
  • Participate in Governance and Compliance audits and ensure documentation required for audits are available as requested.
  • Action Corrective Action (CARs) identified in audits timeously.
  • Maintain documentation in a required standard of defects that have been addressed and corrective actions that have been taken and provide supporting documentation in all cases.
  • Develop and manage metrics for compliance.
  • Ensure compliance to all statutory rules and regulations.
  • Keep current on applicable legislation changes and inform business in advance of possible impacts.
  • Implement Regulatory requirements which includes Accreditations and certifying bodies’ compliance.
  • Ensure products comply with industry quality standards.
  • Stay abreast on all current and new standards and regulations.
  • Conduct investigations.
  • Ensure compliance to quality customer requirements.

Human Resource Management

  • Participate in the performance management process.
  • Participate in staff meeting to discuss operational performance and business issues.
  • Live the company values and exhibits behaviours to reflect the company culture.

Financial Management

  • Utilise resources in a cost-effective manner to reduce and eliminate wastage.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to reduce cost without compromising on the delivery of the departmental objectives.
Desired Experience & Qualification
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Industrial Engineering or related field equivalent to NQF 7.
  • 5 years’ post qualification experience in Quality Engineering, Quality Assurance or similar experience in a technical/ engineering environment.
  • Hands-on experience with Quality Management Systems (QMS) and testing methodologies.
  • Experience in quality control, quantitative measurement and conducting quality awareness programs.
  • Experience in project management and statistical methods.
  • Competent knowledge of computer technology and systems operations.
  • Competent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Competent knowledge of methodologies of quality assurance and standards.
  • Competent knowledge of legislative and regulatory environment, relevant Aviation legislation and regulations and market trends and conditions.
  • Competent knowledge of ISO 9001:2015
