Ramp & Baggage Supervisor

Reporting to the Executive Manager – Ramp Services, the Ramp & Baggage Supervisor is responsible for the oversight of airside stakeholders operating on WSA’s aprons, monitoring operational efficiency and safety of both ramp and baggage make-up operations.

The role provides day-to-day operational leadership and resource management of the Baggage Operations Coordinator team. You’ll monitor the compliance of airport partners operating airside in accordance with airport standards and rules and ensure WSA’s contracted service providers achieve their day-to-day SLA targets to ensure efficiency for airlines, GHA’s and WSA.

The role will initially be performed within regular business hours to support the development of processes and procedures. It will then transition to a shift-based position that supports our operational trials and testing prior to the commencement of live operations when the role will require permanent shift work.

Key responsibilities:

• Lead and direct the day of operations, providing supervision of the Baggage Operations Coordinator team.
• Monitor ramp and baggage safety and efficiency, ensuring the safety of all stakeholders operating on airport.
• Ensure the team are briefed on any changes to Standard Operating Procedures or policies.
• Foster collaborative working relationships to support Airport stakeholders and their management to address operational or safety issues or queries.
• Set an appropriate example for the team to follow and demonstrate to airport stakeholders.
• Respond to safety incidents on the apron, coordinate with the AOCC and Airfield Services Supervisor to ensure appropriate resources are assigned and emergency services attend as required.
• Gather relevant information for reporting and coordinate with WSA Safety and AOCC as required to report incidents to the relevant regulators. Oversee the return of affected facilities to service.
• Support operational response in the event of a declared airport emergency or other business continuity requirements.
• Liaise with the Baggage Operations Coordinator and AOCC to address any issues regarding ULD management and supply.
• Monitor the day-to-day compliance of contracted service providers to achieve SLA targets with regards to pooled GSE and management of the baggage make-up operations. Report on any performance issues.
• Coordinate with the Baggage Operations Coordinator to oversee Baggage system flight planning and coordinate the response of resources to address any baggage system outages.
• Coordinate and enact daily duties to support WSA’s FOD Management Plan and Airside Enforcement objectives. Coordinate airport community FOD walks and FOD Quality Assurance inspections.
• Support in implementing continuous improvement initiatives / projects rolled out by WSA.
• Designated DAMP Supervisor on duty for Ramp and Baggage Operations.

About You

• A minimum of 5 years’ airport operations or ground handling experience, preferably in a supervisory role focused on ramp and/or baggage operations.
• Experience leading a small airport operations team with the ability to motivate and effectively manage resources.
• Familiarity with the IATA AHM requirement towards ramp operations and GSE standards.
• Flexibility and ability to adapt to change, working on multiple issues at the same time.
• Confident and self-motivated, being a genuine team player.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Aeronautical Radio Operators Certificate.
• Ability to obtain an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC).
• NSW Drivers License and ability to obtain an Airside Driving Authority.
• Senior First Aid Certificate.
• NSW General Construction Induction White Card.
