ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assists, plans, and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state and federal rules and regulations including the Department of the Army (DA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and the Department of Transportation (DOT)
  • Advises Program Manager, Site Supervisor and other personnel on safety compliance concerns and preventative actions
  • Plans and implements training for employees in work site safety practices
  • Maintains safety files and records
  • Performs safety surveys and inspections, prepares written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective of preventive measures where indicated and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented
  • Conducts post-accident investigations and prepares reports identifying possible accident root cause and hazard analysis
  • Serves as site liaison for all outside local, state and federal regulatory agencies and vendors associated with safety and environmental programs
  • Provides job hazard analysis for specific procedures
  • Ensures operational processes and procedures are being followed
  • The Safety Manager may be required to perform other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has supervisory responsibilities over the site training officer (1 employee). Provides counsel and guidance to all employees regarding site safety

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills specifically using Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn additional computer skills or software programs. Working knowledge of advanced software applications is preferred
  • Ability to enter data accurately into databases.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Interpersonal skills are necessary to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff. Will also routinely interact with other crew members
  • Must possess effective oral and technical written communication skills to clearly communicate information to others.
  • Ability to use general office equipment such as fax, phone, copier, scanner, printers, etc.
  • Ability to follow a process.
  • Strong professional customer service skills, including active listening, prompt service and follow-up.
  • Strong decision analysis and problem solving skills; ability to draw conclusions and justify decisions. Must be able to communicate issues to management.
    • Ability to learn and understand corporate policies and procedures and how they relate to goals.
    • Ability to perform basic mathematical computations
    • High degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independently
    • Ability to multi-task

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in management, production management, aviation maintenance, professional aeronautics with technical specializations, aviation safety, or other related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of US Army aviation safety experience
  • Must be a graduate of the U.S. Army Safety Officers Course
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance.
  • Aviation accident investigation experience.

HIGHLY DESIRABLE:

  • 5 years of aviation research and development experience
  • OSHA #501 Certification preferred.
  • Current or former US Army Aviator preferred.
  • DCMA INST 9210.1 experience preferred.
  • AS9110 experience preferred.
  • Current Secret Security Clearance

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

A fast-paced multi-tasking customer service oriented environment requiring a high degree of efficient and effective performance.  Adaptability regarding schedule and task changes is necessary to accommodate changing priorities.  Overtime may be required.
