JOB SUMMARY:

The AOPA Air Safety Institute (ASI) is seeking a Safety Content Producer to create, coordinate, and deliver high-quality, compelling, and engaging content for all ASI channels including print, online, video, and social media. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Write content for use in a variety of AOPA and ASI channels including print, online, video, and social media. 
  • Produce engaging video content through various styles including storytelling, accident analysis, interviews, documentaries, and more. Uphold the highest production standards, incorporating best practices in planning, logistics, scriptwriting, cinematography, lighting, animations, and editing, while skillfully using b-roll footage and audio elements. 
  • Reaches the next generation of pilots by utilizing the latest writing and editing styles, video production techniques, and social media trends and practices.
  • Manages ASI’s weekly ePilot and social media calendars to determine which ASI products and other areas of safety-related interest should be covered in various publications and other outlets.
  • Travel as necessary for offsite assignments.

REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3 – 5 years of relevant experience in creating, editing, and delivering aviation-related written and video content.
  • FAA Private Pilot License 
  • Associate degree in English, journalism, video journalism, filmmaking, or related field. Professional experience may substitute for a degree (in addition to the minimum 3-5 years of experience listed above). 
  • Demonstrated skills as a creative and innovative writer and videographer with ability to conceptualize, script, and tell engaging stories using styles that attract new and emerging audiences and generations. 
  • Excels and thrives in a fast-paced, focused environment while working on multiple projects under tight deadlines. 
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. 
  • Demonstrates initiative, integrity, punctuality, teamwork, reliability, and accepts constructive feedback with a positive attitude and commitment to continuous improvement. 
  • Must be a self-starter who seeks opportunities for ongoing professional development. 
  • Must have experience in videography/filmmaking. 
  • Proficient with Adobe Premier or equivalent. 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.). 
  • Ability to quickly learn and adopt collaborative software platforms (Microsoft Teams, Wrike, SharePoint). 

PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certificated Flight Instructor (CFI) experience preferred. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, video journalism, filmmaking, or related fields. 
  • Videography/filmmaking experience with animation preferred. 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This position works in an office setting.
  • Typical working hours are 8:30 am – 5 pm, Monday through Friday, with a one-hour lunch break. However, when on assignment work hours and locations will vary.
  • Generally, a climate-controlled environment with occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions when attending aviation related assignments and/or events, including exposure to higher altitudes and confined spaces if in a general aviation aircraft.
  • This position requires some travel, possibly up to 25% of the time. Travel is by aircraft (general aviation and commercial) and by road or public transit. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The physical demands of the position are typical of a standard office environment and work-related travel.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly be required to:
  • Sit for extended periods while working at a computer or attending meetings.
  • Use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
  • Communicate effectively via email, phone, and in-person, which requires clear speech, hearing, and vision.
  • Occasionally lift or move items weighing up to 25 pounds, such as boxes of materials or equipment.
  • Occasionally stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms during the course of normal office activities.
  • Climb, crawl, kneel, bend, stoop, duck, step up or down when getting into or out of aircraft or other vehicles used to travel and/or complete work assignments.
  • Incumbent will be exposed to higher altitudes, varying temperatures when traveling in GA or commercial aircraft.
  • Must be able to sit in small spaces for extended periods of time with others when traveling in GA aircraft.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  

  • This position is located at the Frederick, MD location and is not eligible for remote status. 
  • The salary range for this position is: $65,000 - $70,000 depending on education and experience.
