About Us
McDermott Aviation is Australia’s largest privately owned Heli-Aviation company, operating from bases across Australian, Europe and the USA and home to the world’s largest fleet of the most powerful, single engine, twin bladed helicopter – the Bell 214B. We provide Aerial Fire Fighting, Emergency Assistance, Charter and Helicopter lifting services and support.
The Role
The Safety Officer is responsible for audits, investigations and assisting with the effective compliance of the company’s safety management system and deployment of processes to meet legislative and CASA requirements.
Responsibilities
- Conduct investigations and audits within all areas of the business
- Identify hazards and safety risks
- Support the effectiveness and continued improvement of the Safety Management System and Quality Management System
- Assist with ensuring the Emergency Response Plan is current and provide support in managing emergency response exercises
- Resolve local safety and quality issues
- Prepare and conduct toolbox meetings
- Support the development and implementation of OHS policies and programs
- Conduct risk assessment and enforce preventative measures
- Initiate and organise OHS training of employees and executives
- Inspect premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity (e.g. not using protective equipment) and implement preventable measures or remedies
About You:
- Minimum 2 years experience in workplace safety position
- Experience in Aviation preferred but not essential
- Safety audit and investigation experience preferred
- Experience with workers compensation claims and return to work preferred
- Experience with Safety Management System
