Senior System Safety Engineer - CANADA 

 

Note: This position opening is in Canada and will initially be fully remote.

Job Summary: 

The Senior System Safety Engineer at EOS Aircraft, Inc. will be pivotal in ensuring the successful development of our aircraft systems architecture. This role will offer the possibility to lead the identification of our aircraft systems functions and deploy rigorous System Safety Plan in support to the certification of our product. The System Safety Engineer reports directly to the Head of Aircraft Development and heavily supports the functional leaders in developing and executing the overall aircraft system integration. This role demands an individual capable of overseeing the development of complex aerospace systems, from conceptual design through to operation and eventual retirement. This position will guide, implement, and manage system safety activities including defining system safety assessment process, developing documentations, and performing analyses to the overall aircraft design. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Leading Safety Assessments: Creating and deploying the System Safety Plan (SSP) defining required processes, activities, responsibilities, and deliverables in alignment with guidelines from ARP4754B, and ARP 4761A to support the implementation of Enhanced Zonal Analysis Procedures (EZAP). 
  • Safety Analysis: Conducting and overseeing System Safety Analysis (SSA), including Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), with a strong focus on innovative propulsive systems. 
  • Collaboration: Working closely with various engineering and testing teams to integrate safety requirements into the design and development process of the overall aircraft and communicate it to the FAA and other regulatory authorities. 
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring that all safety analyses and documentation meet relevant airworthiness regulations and guidance material such as 14 CFR 25.1309. 
  • Risk Management: Leading risk assessments and developing risk management plans to address identified safety concerns. 
  • Training and Mentorship: Providing guidance and training to junior engineers and other team members on safety engineering principles and practices. 
  • Reliability, Maintainability and System Safety (RM&S): Strong understanding of RM&S and a proven track record of implementing a Maintenance Steering Group utilizing the guidance in MSG3. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in Systems Safety analyses within the aerospace industry, with at least one experience during Conceptual Design phase. 
  • Expertise: Deep understanding of systems safety engineering principles, methodologies, and best practices, particularly in the context of aerospace system development in accordance with ARP4754B and ARP4761A. 
  • Software Tools: Strong understanding and familiarity with commonly used software tools used in aviation safety analysis (e.g. RELEX, SMS, Polaris, etc) 
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, with a strong track record of mentoring engineers and driving project success. 
  • Problem-Solving: Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to address complex engineering challenges. 
  • Communication: Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders. 
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree or higher in Systems Engineering or a relevant discipline is strongly preferred.
