Sheet Metal Mechanic Responsibilities

The Sheet Metal Mechanic is responsible for:

1. High Proficiency in Repairs and Modifications: Demonstrating high proficiency in all minor through major repairs, modifications, Engineering Authorizations (E.A.s), with minimal supervision.

2. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

   • Component Replacement: Removing and replacing various aircraft components using special tooling and ground support equipment, following oral and written instructions such as supervisor’s directives and manuals.
   • Blueprint Reading and Interpretation: Proficient in detailed blueprint reading, interpreting and working from service bulletins, engineering work orders, and major structural repair manuals (S.R.M.).
   • Skill in Layout Work: Ability to layout work using bend radius, setback, and bend allowance charts, along with the utilization of shop math.
   • Complex Repairs: Installing and/or splicing spars, changing landing gears and trunions, conducting pressure bulkhead repairs, and keel beam repairs/removal and reinstall.
   • Knowledge and Compliance: Familiarity with ATA codes, applicable Federal Aviation Regulations (F.A.R.’s), company policies and procedures including job card/time card management, routine/non-routine cards, S.R.M.'s, service bulletins, Engineering Orders (E.O.’s), and work sign-off/sell-off procedures.
   • Training and Skill Development: Performing duties of and providing necessary training for lower skill levels, maintaining and storing tools in serviceable condition, adhering to safe maintenance practices, and keeping a clean work area.
   • Record Keeping and Training: Maintaining personal records of work performed on OJT forms for the Training Department and successfully completing any courses deemed necessary.

3. Requirements:

   • 1-3 years of aviation mechanic structures experience.
   • Tools are required for the position.
