Sheetmetal Mechanic Responsibilities

The Sheetmetal Mechanic is responsible for:

  1. Fabrication, Repair, and Rebuilding: Fabricating, repairing, replacing, or rebuilding aircraft structures, repair parts, and special tools. This is in accordance with policies, procedures, requirements, and specifications established by the company, applicable government agencies, and aircraft manufacturers as outlined in approved Maintenance Manuals.

  2. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Possessing working knowledge to fabricate, repair, replace, or rebuild aircraft structures, repair parts, and special tools.
    • Considering heavy phase maintenance experience on other military aircraft types.
    • Working according to written and/or verbal instructions.
    • Performing all work in accordance with approved maintenance procedures.
    • Recording work performed and assuming responsibility for that work as indicated by signature.
    • Using blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and Maintenance Manuals in performance of assigned duties.
    • Performing touch-up painting as needed (within task area).
    • May undertake experimental and developmental work as assigned.
  3. Requirements:

    • Two (2) years of experience in heavy aircraft maintenance, preferably with an airline and/or MRO aircraft company.
    • Thorough working knowledge of all forms and documents required to support heavy maintenance service, including Company policy and procedure manuals, FAR’s, AD’s, Service Bulletins, and Maintenance Manuals.
    • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, instructions, blueprints, and drawings.
    • Proficiency in the use and application of tools, gauges, instruments, etc., necessary for duties assigned.
    • Understanding and working knowledge of hazardous material handling and disposal related to the job assignment.
    • Valid and current Airframe and Powerplant license REQUIRED.
    • Ownership of minimum required tools.
    • Qualification to obtain a SIDA badge.
    • High School diploma or equivalent.
  4. Miscellaneous:

    • Must be able to pass a 10-year federal background check to obtain an airport security badge.
    • Each candidate tracking in will receive either an Airbus Training or Boeing Training (General Familiarization) at no cost to the employee.
