Purpose of the position

As Quality Engineer - Special Processes, you will work alongside the Senior Special Processes Production Technician and are responsible for all OEM & Nadcap accredited processes (e.g., Heat Treatment, Chemical Processing, Welding, etc...), preparing for, conducting and coordinating related internal and External audits.

Ensuring appropriate systems are embedded within the businesses QMS, and products produced across the department during their manufacturing cycle meet the applicable quality standards required by our internal procedures, customers & regulatory bodies.

Accountability

  • Accountable for own work quality to ensure is meets the requirements.

  • Accountable for the safe, compliant, efficient, delivery of all internal and external audits  

  • Accountable to ensure Audit findings and internal NCs are answered in a timely manner.

  • Supports the wider Manufacturing Support team to ensure overall adherence to audits.

  • Help drive productivity and efficiency improvements across team and wider business.

  • Engage where possible with Continuous Improvement activities.

  • Supports the Senior Special Process Production Technician

Responsibilities:

  • Complete NADCAP audit checklist and upload, including the management and closure of any subsequent non-compliance.

  • Lead 5y, 8D etc. as appropriate to the investigation and determination of root cause and the implementation of corrective and preventive action including customer complaints.

  • Perform internal QC audits in line with the audit schedule.

  • Lead external and internal regulatory OEM, CAA and NADCAP audits.

  • Review, amendment, and approval of Manufacturing QMS documentation as required.

  • Analysis of data

  • Creation and amendment of local procedures as required.

  • Creation of standard operating procedures

  • Conduct training as appropriate.

  • Liaise with all internal stake holders as appropriate.

  • Liaise with businesses customers and suppliers as appropriate.

  • Assess, select and ensure ongoing compliance with new and existing suppliers.

  • Provide support during supplier selection and new program launches.

  • PRI check sheet completion as applicable

  • Work in an accurate and timely fashion

  • Promote the content of the Company's VSV, Health and Safety Policy and your responsibilities within the Policy.

  • Comply with all relevant internal rules, policy & procedure including those related to health & safety, business management system, data protection & employee handbook.

  • Promoting and applying lean principles in all Special Process activities

Tasks:

  • Lead the review of periodic testing logs including trend analysis or results.

  • Lead all department internal and external audits.

  • Review and maintain all internal processes and logs in line with external supplier documentation and third-party specifications.

  • Reviewing, updating, and approving standard work guideline instructions

  • Lead monthly CRB and Special Processes team meetings.

Technical Competencies:

  • Knowledge of Nadcap special processes.

  • Experience in a precision manufacturing environment.

  • Previous management experience

  • Strong time management skills with an attention to detail.

  • IT literate to intermediate level.

  • Specialise in one or more of the following areas, Heat Treatment, Welding, Chemical Processing, NDT,

  • Familiar with AMS2750 Pyrometry requirements.

  • Understanding and management of regulatory approvals such ISO 9001, AS9100 etc…

  • Experience of auditing, ISO9001 or similar modern standards at lead auditor level.

  • Commercial Awareness

  • Computer literate, Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.

Education:

  • Significant experience in metallic manufacturing processes.

  • The ability to accurately follow detailed engineering drawings, work instructions and specifications.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to the highest standards of quality at work Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.

  • HNC / HND, ONC, BTEC Diploma Level or equivalent NVQ level 4 qualification.

Experience:

Identify the amount and type of general and/or managerial experience required. Experience should be based on the job requirements and not on the experience level of the incumbent.

  • Essential experience of NADCAP, AS9100 and CAA Part 21/145 approvals

  • Understanding of Boeing and Lockheed Martin engineering requirements would be an advantage, but training will be given to the successful applicant.

  • Preferably worked within an organization that practised continuous improvement.
