What you can expect from this position:

Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager, this role is responsible for ensuring safety compliance and operational integrity within ADTS by conducting regular inspections, audits, and monitoring of critical safety programs. The position involves supporting incident investigations, developing safety documentation (JSAs, SOPs), and coordinating regular reviews and safety updates of job plans within MAXIMO. The individual will also contribute to safety program development, represent ADTS on safety committees, and provide detailed reports on findings and performance metrics, all to maintain a safe and compliant working environment.

 As a Specialist, Health & Safety, ADTS, you will:

  • Conduct regular inspections of GTAA maintenance activities and provide reports detailing inspection results.
  • Annually certify harnesses and lanyards and keep appropriate records.
  • Perform weekly TRACA observations throughout ADTS BU’s.
  • Assist in the monitoring and administration of critical programs such as confined space, electrical safety, maintenance contractor safety, etc.
  • Support in the development and software integration of various safety compliance requirements.
  • Perform weekly inspections audits of ADTS workspaces and create reports detailing results.
  • Perform reviews of corrective action assignment and works with ADTS BU’s on appropriate closure/resolution related to identification of hazards or any other non-compliances.
  • Assist with the administration of third-party validation requirements relating to the maintenance contractor safety management program
  • Support ADTS safety programs by conducting incident investigations, recommending prevention strategies, implementing improvement initiatives, and ensuring compliance with OHSMS requirements through monitoring programs and liaison
  • Assist in maintaining an active and up-to-date database of JSA’s and SOP’s.
  • Coordinate safety reviews of job plans and work management requirements.
  • Provide input and feedback into the development and application of safety objectives, requirements, safety program goals, policies, procedures and programs.
  • Represent ADTS HST on safety related committees, projects, forums such as, but not limited to the WHSC, POSH, etc.
  • Provide regular reports on activities, findings and non-compliance, or any other established key performance metrics.
  • Provide detailed reports on key performance metrics.

This unionized position has an hourly wage rate of $44.63, based on a 40-hour work week. The successful candidate must be available to commence the duties of the positions once a selection decision has been made. A practical and written test will be administered as part of the competitive process. 

Candidates with relevant external experience must provide references with their applications in order to confirm this experience.

This is the role for you, if you have:

  • Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety, or equivalent combination of education or experience working in a health and safety support role/capacity
  • 3 years of related Health and Safety and/or related experience
  • Familiarity of Health and Safety regulations and prescribed safety programs
  • Ability to obtain and maintain AVOP D license
  • Valid class “G” Ontario Driver’s license
  • Ability to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance

Knowledge and skills you bring, that set you up for success:

  • In depth knowledge of OHS, SMS, including hazard assessment and root cause analysis.
  • In depth accident investigation knowledge and the ability to disseminate the gathered information and derive all contributing factors and root causes.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of research techniques combined with ability to compile, assess and analyze information as well as recommended corrective actions related to safety.
  • Strong knowledge of Canada Labour Code part II, Management Systems, Ontario Health & Safety Act, applicable standards, regulations, prescribed guidelines, or best industry practices.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of airport operations as well as the core processes of other divisions.
  • Proficient in the English language including use of Canadian English, editing; grammar; sentence structure; business writing and use of business templates.
  • Knowledge of operation, maintenance and inspection of equipment.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for long periods of time.
  • Expert computer skills in Microsoft Office suite, and SharePoint.
  • Demonstrated experience and/or knowledge of MAXIMO job planning and work management modules, relating to health and safety requirements.
  • Ability to be technologically savvy, with good business acumen.
  • Ability to work and drive airside and obtain D/AVOP permit.
