Supervisor, Fabrication - 2nd Shift

Position Summary
 
The Supervisor, Fabrication has responsibility to lead departments consisting of approximately 20 to 30 hourly skilled and semi-skilled workers, working with team leaders to build custom and standard ground support equipment in a safe and productive manner while adhering to all quality, lean manufacturing and ISO standards. 
 
Essential Functions
  • Achieve company standards for safety, quality and on time delivery
  • Develop and maintain performance metrics as needed to drive understand progress in the area relative to plans and to drive improvements in efficiency, productivity, and product quality
  • Track and drive daily performance within work area to meet Business Unit objectives for unit output, schedule attainment, earned hours, and productivity
  • Participate in continuous improvement events and implement other best practices as required
  • Adhere to ISO standards and conduct periodic quality audits
  • Proactively ensure safety compliance and audits to achieve a safe work place
  • Coordinate with Sourcing Department to resolve any material shortages
  • Coordinate with Planning and create workable weekly work schedules
  • Work with Process Engineers and Maintenance to ensure that work processes are properly enabled and that equipment and machines are properly calibrated and tested for disrepair and malfunctions
  • Monitor product standards; resolve problems on production line as they occur and implement long-term solutions
  • Manage communication lines with other managers, suppliers, Purchasing, Engineering, Product Support and HR Departments.
  • Participate in other initiatives and projects as necessary
Supervisory Duties
  • Supervise direct reports by providing coaching, feedback, reminders and mentoring as appropriate to enhance the functioning of the team
  • Maintain positive employee relations through fair and consistent application of company policies and procedures and use of direct and proactive communication skills
  • Apply the company’s corrective action process to monitor and improve performance, attendance, and conduct/behavior issues
  • Implementation of 6S and Lean Manufacturing principles to drive area to high efficiency and output
  • Participation in RIE events, Gemba board walks
  • Ability to analyze data for root cause analysis in respect to output, and efficiency
  • Prepare and communicate regular performance appraisals and development plans for assigned employees in conjunction with the company’s standards
  • Take an active role in resolving and mediating employee conflict situations in a timely and appropriate manner, consulting with and/or referring such matters to Human Resources as needed
  • Review and approve vacation requests, and complete required paper work and administrative tasks
  • Develop training programs to enhance the operational skillset, as well as, cross functional skillset required to advance levels or job titles
  • Make recommendations about appropriate staffing levels
  • Participate in interviewing, selecting, orientating and training new staff members
  • Conduct regular meetings with team members as a group and individually, and educates team on company and department procedures, changes, new information, etc., asking for input and obtaining support and buy-in from the team
Qualifications  
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Operations or Business majors preferred
    • In lieu of education, the company reserves the right to substitute comparable experience, education or certifications.
  • Industrial Product Manufacturing experience strongly preferred
    • Experience in low volume or one-off weld and fabrication preferred
    • Must be knowledgeable in weld symbols or have the ability to learn weld symbols
    • Must be able to read blue prints
    • Industrial Laser/Saw Manufacturing experience strongly preferred
  • At least 2 years’ Supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment requirement required
    • Must be a hands-on people leader with a shop floor presence
    • Looks for ways to improve safety and educate team about safer working techniques
  • Experience in a high mix, low volume manufacturing environment strongly preferred
  • Must be able to work effectively with Quality, Sourcing, Mechanical and Design Engineers, and Process Engineers to achieve corporate targets for safety, quality, and on time delivery in an extremely fast-paced environment
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently, generally without assistance.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, stoop and reach with arms and hands frequently.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks effectively.
  • Ability to follow all safety requirements.
  • Ability to work in small areas in order to observe and/or perform the work.
  • Ability to climb step ladders, work platforms as needed.
Work Environment
 
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. The noise level in the work environment is usually a quiet office environment. The manufacturing environment noise level may be somewhat louder in certain areas, and is subject to variations in temperature.
