Introduction

Purpose of the job: Plan, schedule, lead organise, control and coordinate all the actions to ensure aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul activities are as per operational targets and within (OPEX and CAPEX). Manage and lead a team of individuals to the necessary output and ensure transformation and talent optimisation requirements are achieved as per relevant targets. All activities to align to recognised and approved aircraft maintenance quality and safety standards.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Monitor and control the productivity of crew members by analysing actual vs planned man – hours and implementing improvement measures;
  • Maximise manpower utilisation by ensuring that manpower is distributed as per operational requirements;
  • Plan, schedule, lead, co - ordinate and control all relevant activities to maintain the maintenance inspection schedule and thereby ensure aircraft on time delivery;
  • Maintain high standard of workmanship;
  • Manage internal clients interface through production;
  • Identify gaps to continuously improve the business, processes and procedure;
  • Develop, review and modify capacity plan to support operational requirements and lean principles;
  • Execute ad-hoc projects and other duties as assigned;
  • Manage cost centre expenses and capital budget by controlling Opex costs and ensure it remains within the budget;
  • Manage productivity effectively to ensure recoveries are realised (time keeping) for the staff;
  • Leads and manages the team, providing direction, development and motivation to meet overall departmental and business objectives;
  • Drives diversity and transformation management aligned to group guidelines;
  • Defines, maintains and implement Human Resources Service level agreements;
  • Plans and assesses the HR requirements in accordance with the expected deliverables and allocates resources to meet departmental goals;
  • Complies with the Talent and Performance Management approved processes and procedures in collaboration with the HRBP and staff members in terms of:
  • On boarding of employees,
  • Job Profile requirements,
  • Performance contracts,
  • Training and development (including PDP),
  • Performance review and management,
  • Coaching and mentoring,
  • Succession planning,
  • Employee relations.
  • Actively participates in the recruitment process, including the definition of job specifications, the job interview process and on appointment in accordance with strategic objectives;
  • Effectively communicates with the staff to discuss operational performance and business issues;
  • Ensures the maintenance or reduction of costs without compromising on the delivery of the departmental objectives;
  • Lives the company values and exhibits behaviours to reflect the company culture;
  • Implement and monitor production quality control measures;
  • Maintain safe and compliant working conditions and sound aircraft maintenance practices;
  • Ensure department conforms to quality, health and safety regulations;
  • Validate quarterly inventory checks of all Denel Aeronautics owned assets done by team;
  • Manage adherence to Quality standards of all regulatory bodies to support the company to maintain current accreditations and pursue new accreditations;
  • Apply in depth knowledge of the requirements of the Manual of Procedures, SA Civil Aviation Regulations, Approved Schedules, Manufacturers Manuals and Airworthiness Notices;
  • Carry out continues checks to ensure compliance to quality, production, housekeeping, maintenance, approvals and safety procedures and policies;
Desired Experience & Qualification
  • Relevant Aircraft Trade Certificate;
  • 1 year Certificate Business Management Course or Equivalent;
  • Military Release and or Equivalent Civil AME License (as governed by regulatory body);
  • 10 Years’ Experience as Aircraft Technician of which 3 Years’ Management Experience (Crew Chief);
  • Advanced knowledge of Trouble shooting;
  • Advanced knowledge of Technical Maintenance systems and processes;
  • Basic knowledge of Business Management Principles;
  • Basic Knowledge of Quality Management Principles;
  • Advanced knowledge of Aviation Safety Policies and Procedures;
  • Advanced knowledge of Statutory Requirements, rules and Regulations.
