The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Transportation Planner to support the development and implementation of aviation related projects, with a strong focus on unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and emerging air mobility technologies. The individual in this position should have a strong passion for aviation and regional development. Applicants wishing to be considered for this position should apply online at . Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assisting with the implementation of the Regional General Aviation and Heliport System Plan
  • Working with supervisor to collaborate with stakeholders for the North Texas Airspace Awareness Pilot program
  • Assisting with the coordination to integrate sensor data for the Regional Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM) system
  • Working with supervisor to advance unmanned aviation infrastructure on the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Key Site efforts
  • Supporting efforts to integrate unmanned aviation aircraft, infrastructure, and policies across the region
  • Assisting with stakeholder engagement for the Fort Worth’s Department of Transportation (DOT) Smart Grant Phase 1 and 2 projects
  • Supporting the planning for Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) operations for larger scale events
  • Assisting supervisor with the planning of monthly UAS Safety and Integration Task Force meetings, which include drafting agendas, meeting materials, and presentations for supervisor review, with the opportunity to deliver presentations to staff and committee members
  • Attending meetings, workshops, training, and committee meetings
  • Monitoring and tracking developments in unmanned aviation grants, policies, and regulations
  • Drafting for supervisor review, updates and content for the North Texas UAS website ()
  • Drafting for supervisor review, correspondence, technical reports, and other documents

Required Skills

  • Good communication, both verbal and written, with the ability to listen to and follow instructions, coordinate with team members, and present ideas
  • Detail oriented, highly organized, with an ability to manage multiple assignments/tasks and work well in a deadline-driven environment without diminishing the quality of work
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in analytical, quantitative methods preferred (aviation management, airspace management, transportation planning, etc.)
  • One year or less of work-related experience

Starting Salary Range

Minimum of $47,618.00 - $57,141.60 annually

The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is a voluntary association of, by and for local governments, and was established to assist local governments in planning for common needs, cooperating for mutual benefit, and coordinating for sound regional development. NCTCOG's purpose is to strengthen both the individual and collective power of local governments and to help them recognize regional opportunities, eliminate unnecessary duplication, and make joint decisions. Since 1974, NCTCOG has served as the Metropolitan Planning Organization for transportation in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Area and is responsible for developing transportation plans and programs that address the complex needs of the rapidly growing area. The planning area for transportation includes the 12 counties of Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Hood, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, and Wise. NCTCOG also serves as a designated recipient for Federal Transit Administration funds.
